Obama Climate Advisors Making Big Bucks Despite Sequester

After closing the doors to public tours in an effort to save money, White House officials haven’t yet said if sequester cuts will result in furloughs or layoffs for its senior staffers — as is happening with rank-and-file in other executive branch agencies.

But there are dozens of senior employees and other presidential “assistants” to choose from if the administration were to look at cutting the six-figure salaries from its payroll.

In the field of energy and climate change alone, President Obama in 2012 employed three advisers making at least $100,000 — though one has since left.

The president kept on staff a “deputy assistant” for energy and climate change, Heather Zichal, making $140,000; a “special assistant” for energy and environment, Nathaniel Keohane; and a “deputy director” for energy and climate change, Dan Utech.

Together, their salaries totaled over $370,000 last year, according to White House records.

Climate blogger Steven Goddard said it’s unlikely the administration will scale back its circle of advisers, at least on this issue.

“It’s a very important point to his political base,” Goddard said. “Whether he believes it or not himself, he has to make the effort to appear that he’s working on controlling the climate.”

Dodged The Bullet Again

Harold Camping said that the world would be destroyed on May 21, 2012

Mayan calendar enthusiasts told us that the world would be destroyed on December 21, 2012

James Hansen told us that the world was doomed unless Obama fixed the climate before January 20, 2013.

Barack Obama told us that the economy would be destroyed on March 1, 2013 unless we gave him money.

As far as I can tell, we seemed to have survived.

Definition Of A Gun Nut

From reading left wing Internet forums, I have determined that a gun nut is anyone who is concerned about Obama purchasing 7,000 fully automatic rifles, 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition, and 2,700 tanks – all for use in the US.

Right after he told us that the only purpose for assault rifles is to kill people.

Bloomberg Dictatorship Plans Hit A Bump In The Road

New York City’s ban on large-size soda drinks was blocked by a judge after industry groups including the American Beverage Association sued to stop the plan, calling it an unfair burden on small businesses.

Groups representing beverage makers, restaurants and theaters filed a petition in New York State Supreme Court in October, the state’s trial level court, seeking to block enforcement of the measure, calling the ban “unprecedented interference” with consumer choice.

New York Supreme Court Justice Milton Tingling in Manhattan approved the group’s request, issuing a permanent injunction preventing the city from implementing the plan, which had been scheduled to begin March 12.

The groups said the decision by the Board of Health to approve the ban was overreaching and ignored the rights of New Yorkers to make their own choices.

1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security? It’s Time For A National Conversation

The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice.  It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition.  As reported elsewhere, much of this purchase order is for rounds forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month.  Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years.  In America.

Add to this perplexing outré purchase of ammo, DHS now is showing off its acquisition of heavily armored personnel carriers, repatriated from the Iraqi and Afghani theaters of operation.
