The US is getting blasted by one snowstorm after another. Last year the experts told us that the lack of snow was due to global warming, and they are about to start blaming the excess snow on global warming – because they need funding and don’t care about facts.
I plotted US snowfall vs. temperature for all GHCN HCN stations which have been continuously active since at least 1920. There is a strong correlation between cold years and snowfall – which would be obvious to any child but beyond the grasp of climate experts.
Jeff Masters says (this week) that drought is the greatest threat of global warming. US precipitation has been steadily increasing for at least 90 years.
I added some code to measure the total snowfall. The graph below plots the total annual snowfall for all 821 GHCN HCN stations which have been continuously active since at least 1920.
There is no trend in US snowfall. The snowiest year was 1951, and the least snowy year was 1981.
McKibben thinks that one dry winter in 2011-2012 is a trend. Three of the ten snowiest years have been since 1998, including 2010-2011.
The left understands that there is no shortage of corrupt academics who will produce any result they need for their political goals. When the facts work against their political goals, they simply get some university professor to produce a fraudulent study.
A recent example was Diane Feinstein. The FBI says that violent crime and murders are down in the US since the “assault weapon” ban was lifted in 2004, but that didn’t suit her agenda – so she simply quoted some garbage academic studies which said otherwise.
Another recent example is the junk science about rapid Antarctic warming – which spread like wildfire through the communist news network.
And of course there is Mikey Mann’s hockey stick.
Like their predecessors at Soviet Pravda, the US press corpse won’t talk much about news events which differ from the official Democratic Party line. The last two winters have seen record cold and snow in much of the Northern Hemisphere, and the story goes almost completely unreported in the US. Washington understands that the ignorant American public can’t be trusted with facts.
Parts of Korea are having their snowiest December on record.
The KMA said yesterday’s snowfall in South Gyeongsang set a new record for December.
Russian temperatures are -50C and the snow is five metres deep.
In Russia, Frigid Weather Claims Lives
As temperatures plummet to -50 Celsius in some parts of Russia, thousands have been evacuated from their homes in the country’s Far East and Siberia. More than 120 people have died from the severe cold — at least seven in the last 24 hours.
Meteorologists say the country is experiencing one of its coldest winters in decades.
In the Far East region of Magadan, 300 kilometers of roads remain blocked by heavy snow. Plows and machines can not reach those roads to clear them. In some places, snow is as much as five meters deep.
The UK had almost no snow and very warm winter temperatures from 1902 through 1906, and again from 1970 to 1976 – culminating in a very severe drought.
British Winter Snowfall Events 1875-2012 (Bonacina/O’Hara)
In April, the government warned that the UK faced a record drought.
Half of Britain is now in drought as the country faces its most severe water shortage since 1976, the Environment Agency warns today. More than 35?million people are now living in drought-affected areas, with water shortages today declared across the Midlands and South West. Parts of the country are already drier than they were in the summer of 1976, when Britain experienced its worst drought for more than 100 years. The drought of 1976 led to standpipes being installed in residential streets, water supplies to businesses being rationed and schools having to close early.
As soon as the experts made that prediction, it started pouring and turned into the wettest year on record.
