Extreme Global Weirding In The 1930s

December. 1938 – temperatures in the Arctic above freezing.

In England, March and December of last year were the warmest of the century during which records have been kept at Greenwich.

In December, Moscow was gripped in a protracted cold spell and temperatures fell at times to 50.8 degrees below zero Centigrade.

During the same month, Soviet scientists, wintering at the observatory on Rudolf Is- land, 560 miles from the North Pole, reported a temperature well above the freezing point.

1935 : Russian Ship Sailed 500 Miles From The North Pole In Ice-Free Water

“Remarkable Changes”

“Our generation is living in a period when remarkable changes are taking place almost everywhere throughout the world,” writes Professor L. Berg, of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. “‘Certainly these widely distributed phenomena cannot be due to the action of the Gulf Stream, which, however, naturally receives its share of the greater general warmth.” The slow thawing of the Arctic is given as a partial explanation for the record voyages of Soviet ice-breakers to northern latitudes, which have never before been reached by navigating vessels. The Sadko in 1935, in ice- free water of the North Kara Sea, steamed to 82 degrees, 42 minutes of northern latitude—an all-time record.

Another Wave Of Climate Refugees

This is just what they warned us about. Global warming is forcing people to move south to warmer climates.

Cold Winter and Summer Have Some Ready to Leave Alaska

After record-breaking winter, cool summer is a bummer

ANCHORAGE – After a record-breaking winter, we are now headed for one of the coldest months of July on record.
And it has some Alaskans thinking it may be time to leave the great land.

By Alaska summer standards, it’s been a pretty cool and gloomy start to the beginning of July.

The temps may be setting records, but it’s not the first summer that’s been less than sunny – and some people say they’ve had enough.

But it is hot inside Trenberth`s head, and that proves global warming.

Seth Back On Crack

If an iceberg calves in the Arctic, and no neurotic leftie sees it in a satellite image, does it still cause the world to end?

By SETH BORENSTEIN

WASHINGTON — An iceberg twice the size of Manhattan tore off one of Greenland’s largest glaciers, illustrating another dramatic change to the warming island.

For several years, scientists had been watching a long crack near the tip of the northerly Petermann Glacier. On Monday, NASA satellites showed it had broken completely, freeing an iceberg measuring 46 square miles.

A massive ice sheet covers about four-fifths of Greenland. Petermann Glacier is mostly on land, but a segment sticks out over water like a frozen tongue, and that’s where the break occurred.

That is how glaciers work, Mr. Nitwit. The snow accumulates in the interior, turns into ice, flows to the sea, cracks, breaks off and floats away.

One hundred years ago a large iceberg from Greenland sank the Titanic, but no mentally deficient lefties were there to blame it on your SUV.

Twenty Hottest Six Month Periods In US History

Someone gave me a good laugh this morning here when they commented that the last six months was the “hottest in US history.”

Weird, and I was thinking that would more likely happen during the summer. Here are the actual hottest six month periods in US history (based on USHCN daily data) with the listed month being the end month of the period.

Rank Month	Year	Temperature
1	10	1884	72.3148
2	9	1884	70.2974
3	11	1884	69.0078
4	10	1936	68.9492
5	10	1934	68.8574

More Spectacular Incompetence From GISS

GISS shows June anomalies north of 80N from 0-5 to 4C. They depend heavily on those large North Pole numbers to bring the global average up.

Data.GISS: GISS Surface Temperature Analysis

A couple of minor problems.

  1. It is impossible to get those sort of anomalies over the ice pack in summer. Temperatures over the ice are buffered by the latent heat of melting.
  2. Actual measured temperatures show that June was below normal north of 80N.

COI | Centre for Ocean and Ice | Danmarks Meteorologiske Institut

So where do the GISS numbers come from? They pull them out from where the sun never shines, because they don’t have any thermometers north of 80N.

Bell Rings – Drool

Almost everyone believes that the earth has warmed over the last 80 years. The reason we believe that is because the same people who have been tampering with the US data set tell us that the planet has warmed over the last 80 years. Do we have any other reason to believe it?

No.

We know that the planet warmed from 1910 to 1945. We know that the planet cooled from 1950 to 1975. We know that the planet warmed from 1975  to 1998. Beyond those pieces of information, the relative position of 2012 and 1940 is a mystery.

So stop drooling. That is what Hansen wants you to do.

Joe Bastardi Show Parallels To The 1950s, And Tells Us What to Expect Looking Forward

Guest post by Joe Bastardi

————————————————-

The Way it Is: Back to the  50s.

In  2006 , I loudly proclaimed on national outlets that we were going back to the  1950s  as far as the climate pattern went  and that  the patterns of the  50s which opened the east coast up for hurricanes, as well as  hot, droughty  look,  for the southern US  would take over. The reason was simple,  we were in a cycle roughly like the  period when the PDO and AMO warmed and a flip to the cold PDO was on the way.  So  its not brain surgery  to  then go to the maps of the summer of the  1950s with heat and drought,

and then the remarkable slamming of the east coast in the  1950s

This  Made  it relatively unremarkable to me to simply forecast the similar event based on the reality of where the pattern was going.
