Apparently Hansen claimed in 1983 that the opacity of Venus atmosphere to IR is 100 times greater than Earth.
What utter tripe. In the year 1900, Angstrom demonstrated that IR absorption in a tube of CO2 became saturated at one atmosphere, and that adding more CO2 had very little effect on opacity. Not to mention the fact that CO2 absorption bands almost completely overlap with much broader (and much more abundant) H2O absorption bands.
The atmosphere is 70-85% opaque to IR radiation. The largest possible increase is less than 50%, not 10,000% as Hansen claims.

Perhaps he was confusing opacity with transparency? If Earth’s atmosphere was 0.01% transparent, and Venus atmosphere was 0.0001% transparent – then he could say that Venus atmosphere is 100X less transparent. But that difference would have almost no effect on the temperature.

No Homer, the lapse rate on Venus is nearly identical to Earth. If opacity was the problem, the lapse rate would have to be much higher on Venus.
The reason that Venus is hot is because it has a very thick atmosphere. If the composition of Venus atmosphere was identical to Earth’s atmosphere, temperatures would still be extremely hot on Venus.
This wasn’t Hansen’s first trip into Venusian stupid space. His doctoral dissertation claimed that Venus was very hot due to aerosols – the same aerosols which he now says cool Earth and hide the missing heat.
Sometimes I wonder how this guy made it past high school.
We learned this week that climate change can be caused by either dinosaur farts or by evil white pedophile males. In 100 words or less, how do you distinguish between dinosaur fart climate change, and white male pedophile climate change?

Because we live in a broadly patriarchal society, we should not be surprised that the culture which brought about the worldwide financial meltdown was overwhelmingly masculine. But consider also that the people who are most vocal in denying human responsibility for the disastrous effects of climate change are mostly male.
The people who control factories of wage slaves in the developing world are almost exclusively men, as are the commanders of terrorist regimes. Leaders who threaten or declare war are mostly men as are those involved in paedophile gangs.
While there are women who have been found guilty of this activity, to the best of my knowledge there have been no prosecutions of gangs of women. But there are untold networks of men who organise systematically the abuse of children.

A mini ice-age has caused record-low temperatures in Eastern Europe and rare heavy snow across the continent. Reports from hospitals and emergency agencies put the death toll over the past several days at more than 300 as of Monday.
Finland’s temperatures plummeted to 40 degrees below zero. The Netherlands saw its coldest weather in 15 years. Even Algeria in North Africa had snow and ice on the ground.
Eight inches of snow fell on Rome, the largest single snowfall here in 26 years. Snowdrifts reached 6 feet outside the city. Cars were abandoned on roads. The farm industry group Coldiretti said 2 million cows and pigs could die for lack of food and water.

“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said.
1896 was the deadliest tornado season on record, because of the low CO2 concentration. Hansen tells us that low CO2 provides a safe and stable climate.
