In 1988, he generated these three forecasts for future temperature rise
Scenario A assumes continued exponential trace gas growth, scenario B assumes a reduced linear growth of trace gases, and scenario C assumes a rapid curtailment of trace gas emissions such that the net climate forcing ceases to increase after the year 2000.
Scenario A below assumed that annual CO2 emissions continued to increase, which is what has happened. Scenario B assumed that annual CO2 emissions decreased after 1988, which has not happened. Scenario C below assumes that humans essentially quit producing CO2 twelve years ago in the year 2000.

The image below overlays Hansen’s claimed results on his forecasts. Actual temperature rise is less than Hansen’s zero emissions scenario C, and has gone completely flat over the last five years.
An honest scientist would admit that his theory was wrong, and move on. Hansen has instead ramped up the rhetoric, called for 25 metres of sea level rise, and said that people who disagree with him should be prosecuted.
In order to hide the unexpectedly slow increase in temperature, he has also stretched out the Y-axis of his graph. If he drew the temperature graph at the same scale as his 1988 forecasts, no one would even be paying attention any more. The graph below doesn’t look much like a hockey stick.
In 2005, Real Climate told us that the period from the 1950s to the 1970s had artificially cool temperatures – due to man made aerosols.

The cooling trend from the 40?s to the 70?s now looks more like a slight interruption of an upward trend (e.g. here). It turns out that the northern hemisphere cooling was larger than the southern (consistent with the nowadays accepted interpreation that the cooling was largely caused by sulphate aerosols); at first, only NH records were available.
At the same time, they use 1951-1980 as their baseline for normal temperature.

Earth Gets a Warm Feeling All Over
James Hansen of NASA GISS analyzed the data and said that the 2004 average temperature at Earth’s surface around the world was 0.48 degrees Celsius or 0.86 Fahrenheit above the average temperature from 1951 to 1980.
The years of 1951 to 1980 are used as a “baseline” or average for surface temperatures of Earth’s land and ocean surfaces.

Three weeks apart in 2005, Gavin@GISS told us that 1951-1980 was artificially cool, and Hansen@GISS told us that the same period was normal. Besides all the corruption of the temperature data set, they are similarly pulling a fast one with the baseline.

After Mark Serreze forecast an ice-free North Pole in 2008, Lewis Pugh hopped in his kayak and headed north. As far as I can tell he hasn’t made it there yet.
Twenty-four hours of sunlight is really hotting up the North Pole.

Obama spent the last four years blaming his screw ups on Bush, Republicans, Rush Limbaugh, The Tea Party, bitter people who cling to guns and religion, power plants, white people in general – or anybody productive. Now he wants you to ignore the fact that he has nearly doubled the national debt and unemployment, and asks you give him the opportunity to complete his job of finishing off the US.

It has finally happened: The Heartland Institute, an anti-science front group that used to focus on downplaying the dangers of smoking on behalf of Phillip Morris but now spends much of its time denying the scientific consensus on climate change, has decided to stop even trying to be credible in order to attract publicity. Perhaps the author means anti-science animals smoking cigarettes to deny the scientific consensus?
These morons can never actually debate the science, so they stick with incoherent non-sequiturs and ad homs. No Dan. You are anti-science and anti-journalism. Do you have any useful skills?
