Panetta has proven that he is clueless enough to be a star in the Obama White House. He boldly makes statements about things he knows absolutely nothing about, just like his boss.

Time For A Hockey Team Huddle

A favorite trick of Hansen, Hayhoe, Dessler, et. al is to start their Mann-made warming trends in the 1970s.  This is a wonderful trick, because they also tell us that the 1970s were artificially cooled by man-made cooling.

The cooling between 1940 and 1970 was likely a result of industrial pollution that produced sunlight-blocking aerosols, a phenomenon known as global dimming. As industry ramped up across the globe, much air pollution was being spewed out of smoke stacks along with carbon dioxide.

Global Warming: Fiction: Scientists in the 1970s Were Predicting a Coming Ice Age

Hansen uses the 1970s as his baseline for normal temperatures, and his crew also tells us that 1970s temperatures were not normal because of aerosols.

So the rules are, use the 1970s when convenient for obtaining  funding, and chuck them when inconvenient.

History Of Real Science Dot Com – Part Two

One more item which has to be dealt with.

If you received a fraudulent E-mail solicitation for money from real science dot com on or about April 21, please leave a comment here. Also, please state whether you actually suffered financial loss, and how much.

I am aware of one person who sent money in response to such an E-mail, and I was able to arrange to get the money returned.

Forty Years Ago

In 1972, my brother and I were playing golf on the Aspen, Colorado golf course (basically a big cow pasture.)  A large, slightly intoxicated gentleman appeared out of the rough and told us that he had lost all his balls and asked if he could purchase a couple from us. We obliged, and then he asked if he could play along with us.

We were of course annoyed, but agreed. He was very polite and asked us lots of questions. Being typical rude teenagers, we didn’t ask anything about him until around the 17th hole. He then told us “I am a TV producer. I produced a show called Star Trek. Have you ever heard of it?”

They were having a convention at the Holiday Inn, and Gene Roddenberry got bored and went out to play golf.

Secretary Of Defense Worried About The “Polar Cap” Melting

I was pointing out the other day that with the polar cap melting, we now have problems with regard to who claims the area in the polar region.

Defense.gov Speech:

Alaska had the most sea ice ever recorded this winter, with four of the top five winters occurring since 2007.

University of Illinois – Cryosphere Today

The people of Barrow, Alaska are actually expecting Russians to invade on surfboards at any minute. The ice is only five or six feet thick, and with high temperatures reaching 16 degrees below freezing, that ice will be gone soon.

Greenland Melt Speeding Up

By SETH BORENSTEIN, Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Greenland’s glaciers are hemorrhaging ice at an increasingly faster rate but not at the breakneck pace that scientists once feared, a new study says.

The loss of ice from the glaciers that cover the island is about 30 percent faster than it was a decade ago, researchers said. That means Greenland’s contribution to future sea level rise would be about 4 inches by the year 2100 if ice loss doesn’t speed up much more, a study author said.

That may not sound like much, but when other causes of sea rise around the globe are added, the total could still be about 3 feet by the end of the century, researchers said.

“Increasingly faster?” Sounds bad, whatever it means. We need to keep a close eye on this. The roofs in Tasiilaq no longer are covered with snow, and the surfing is looking fine in the bay.
