Surfing And Cycling At Destroyed Rockaway Beach
A few days ago, Joe Romm told us that this beach (and all nearby humans) were going to be destroyed by an unprecedented storm surge from a category four global warming induced hurricane. Time Magazine says that Joe is the most trusted climate writer in the world.

Shock News From The Irish Met Office : The Sun Affects The Climate
Several research papers have linked solar activity with the Earth’s climate, finding a correlation between solar activity and the occurrence of severe winters in the UK and continental Europe. Mike Lockwood (UK) in 2010, for example, used surrogate geomagnetic data for the solar activity and the Central England temperature record that extends back to 1659 to study the link. It was found that cold winters are associated with periods of low solar activity; the Maunder Minimum, which had virtually no sunspot activity, coincided with a cold period – the ‘Little Ice Age’. Lockwood, and others, suggest a link between solar activity and the occurrence of long-lived winter blocking events in the eastern Atlantic. There is some evidence that the blocks associated with low solar activity are more intense, longer lasting and displaced further eastwards compared with average conditions.

Temperatures Plummeting In Huntsman’s Home State
Jon Huntsman has been arrogantly hyping global warming, while YTD temperatures in his home state have been falling this millennium at a rate of more than 30 degrees per century. See image below ….

Weird Behaviour At NOAA
The blink comparator above compares the August 26 GFS/WRF forecast for yesterday morning, with the Weather Underground radar for yesterday morning. Note that the forecast was almost perfect. I got the GFS boundary conditions from an NOAA web site. The image below is Manhattan wind forecast speeds in meters per second. It show peak sustained winds of about 33 MPH, which was just about what happened.
The best NOAA forecast data showed barely tropical storm force winds, so why was NOAA hyping this storm as a category two hurricane for New York and New England? There was never any reason to expect that.

New York Traffic Accident Statistics
A normal four day period in New York State sees 2,000 people injured and 12 dead in traffic accidents.

The LSM has been reporting that a half dozen people died in “hurricane related” traffic accidents along the entire eastern seaboard over the last four days. Perhaps Irene saved some lives.
