Another Child Who Didn’t Need To Die In Norway

Horatio Chapple, 17, died after the animal attacked a camp on Spitsbergen island in the Svalbard archipelago, in the Arctic circle. Accounts suggest a warning tripwire system, used to set off flares that might have scared the animal away, failed to go off. Police are checking a rifle that apparently failed to fire four times before it was successfully used to kill the bear.

I don’t think I can remember more than two times in my entire life when I have seen a rifle misfire.

Shock News : Ice Shelf Breakups Are Mechanical

GREENBELT, Md., Aug. 8 (UPI) — The tsunami from the March earthquake in Japan had impacts across the world, causing the calving of icebergs a hemisphere away in Antarctica, researchers say.

The finding is the first direct observation of such a connection between tsunamis and icebergs, a NASA release said Monday.

Using multiple satellite images, NASA researchers were able to observe new icebergs floating off to sea shortly after the tsunami swell reached Antarctica.

Arriving 8,000 miles away from the epicenter 18 hours after the earthquake, the tsunami broke off several chunks of ice that together equaled about two times the surface area of Manhattan, scientists say.

Record Heat, Hurricanes And Frogs

http://www.hprcc.unl.edu/products/maps/acis/YearTDeptUS.png

Just because America has experienced 9,000 heat records broken in 2011 so far is no evidence whatsoever that climate change is occurring or global warming is real. The fact that the world is experiencing record heat, colder winters, increased flooding, increased deadly tornados, increased deadly hurricanes, the unexplained deaths of millions of bees, frogs and the accelerated melting of the world’s ice caps isn’t proof of anything.

NOAA : Solar Storm May Destroy Civilization As We Know It

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a federal agency that focuses on the condition of the oceans and atmosphere, said that a severe solar storm could cause global chaos, wreck satellite communications and take down the most important power grids in the world for a period of years.

With solar activity expected to peak around 2013, the Sun is entering a particularly active time and big flares like recent one will likely be common during the next few years.

Most solar flares will only cause minor problems with satellites and power grids, but a major flare in the mid-19th century blocked the nascent telegraph system, and some scientists believe that another such even is now overdue.

According to a report by the National Research Council in 2008, a solar storm similar to the ones in the past could cause up to $2 trillion dollars in damage across the globe today.

The NOAA predicted four “extreme” solar emissions which could threaten the planet this decade. Similarly, NASA warned that a peak in the sun’s magnetic energy cycle and the number of sun spots or flares around 2013 could enable extremely high radiation levels.

July, 1936 : 118 Degrees In Missouri – 311 Deaths In 10 Days

St. Louis Writer Can’t Count To 177

Climate change is real, mankind has contributed to it and, in a year in which extreme weather patterns have led to countless deaths, the role of climate change is a question worth researching.

No matter how you slice it, it’s been a horrific year for weather extremes. The St. Louis area just recorded its 17th death from the July heat wave, and the death toll from the Joplin tornado now stands at 160. Mid-Missouri suffered through a historic blizzard. And flooding of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers has kept parts of northwest and southeast Missouri under water for much of the spring and summer.

Earthquakes caused by climate change!

That’s just Missouri’s weather. It doesn’t begin to take into account the Japanese tsunami and earthquake, droughts in Russia, Africa and parts of the United States or flooding in Pakistan.
