The US Navy is forecasting that the ice edge in the Chukchi and Laptev Seas will push to the north, with little change in the Beaufort or East Siberian Seas.

Met Office Accidentally Admits That Spencer’s Observations Are Correct

The upper 700 metres of the global ocean has seen a rise in temperature since reliable records began in the late 1960s. However, there has been a pause in this warming during the period from 2003 to 2010. The papers published this week offer explanations for this.

Climate model simulations from KNMI show that such pauses in upper ocean warming occur regularly as part of the climate system’s natural variability.

This is because of two factors. Firstly variations in the El Niño – Southern Oscillation, known as ENSO (a climate cycle which affects sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean), cause more of the heat stored in the upper ocean to be released into space.

Then they explain their theory that warm water sinks.

Secondly, heat can be temporarily moved to the deeper ocean below 700m due to changes in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation – the oceanic conveyor belt that transports vast amounts of heat in the North Atlantic Ocean.

GISS Warming Oklahoma

USHCN shows that Meeker, Oklahoma has cooled considerably since 1950

GISS shows Meeker in a crazy warming trend since 1990

If the present refuses to get warmer, then the past must become cooler. GISS quit subtracting a degree in the mid-1990s, and gave 1998 a super-duper turbo charge!

Polar Bear Mauls Climate Change Students

A BRIT has been mauled to death by a polar bear in Norway.

The victim was part of a group of around 80 on a British Schools Exploring Society trip.

Four others were seriously injured when the beast attacked early this morning as they camped on a remote glacier in the Arctic circle.

The BSES sends youths to Svalbard to investigate evidence of climate change.

“less sea ice in the Arctic in July than at any point in recorded history”

It’s official. With two months of melting left to go in the season, scientists say there’s less sea ice in the Arctic in July than at any point in recorded history.

As previously reported, temperatures in the Arctic were as much as 14 degrees above average through parts of July, and now the National Snow and Ice Data Center has finalized its measurements of sea ice for the month. Not surprisingly, it’s another record in a long list of records for Arctic melting.

2011 vs 2007

In 2007, the East Siberian Sea was in rapid retreat. Green shows 2011 ice not present in 2007, and red is the opposite.  The red areas are shrinking, while the green areas are growing very fast.

DMI Forecast For Tomorrow

It looks to me like DMI will have another flat to up slightly down day tomorrow, bringing it almost even with 2008, 2009 and 2010. (There was ice loss seen in the Canadian Archipelago which I missed the first time around.)

1870 : Brisbane Received 24 Inches Of Rain In Four Days

This seems impossible, because CO2 was too low to have that much moisture in the atmosphere. We all know that CO2 is a critical chemical component of H2O.
