The Emperor’s New Clothes
Some people will believe the government over their own eyes. Comment from reader Nick
I live just up the road from Stony Point and have spent most of my life in the environs. Went to School at Hastings, played sport up and down the western shore of western port etc, and now live on about 600 meters from and 2 meters above above eastern shore line.
I wish the sea level would rise, then I’d have “beach front”
I have spoken to people who honestly believe the sea level has risen. LOL. But they still have their property about 3 meters from and 500mm above the shoreline LOL. Seems they’re not convinced enough to put their decisions where their beliefs are LOL

Pulling Number$ Out Of Their A$$e$
Is this the sort of conversation that goes on inside an insane asylum? These people have absolutely no idea what they are doing. How much did the 310 ppm Dust Bowl cost? How much did the 1864 Brisbane flood cost?
How Much Does Global Warming Cost?
A new report suggests that the social cost of carbon — the economic damage done by one ton of carbon dioxide emissions — could be drastically higher than government agencies have estimated.
By Dan WatsonMost people understand that global warming is happening, but it is hard to get a firmer sense of exactly what effects it is going to have on the future of the world. Governments have started to approach climate change as a situation to evaluate using cost-benefit analysis: How much should we spend to fix the problem? How much will it cost us if we don’t?
As Judith Schwartz detailed in February (“The Social Cost of Carbon”), the U.S. government began regulating carbon dioxide emissions via the Environmental Protection Agency’s enforcement of the Clean Air Act. The U.S. calculated the social cost of carbon — the economic damage done by 1 ton of carbon dioxide emissions — through an Interagency Working Group made up of many different cabinet departments and agencies. They estimated the economic damage per ton of CO2 to be just $21, or only about 21 cents per gallon of gasoline.
That price was quite similar to the AUS$23 per metric ton Australia is assessing its 500 top carbon emitters beginning July 1, 2012, according to an announcement Prime Minister Julia Gillard made earlier this month. (That AUS$23 is roughly US$24.50 at current exchange rates.)

Brilliant Deduction!
Melting ice sheets contributed much more to rising sea levels than thermal expansion of warming ocean waters during the Last Interglacial Period, a UA-led team of researchers has found. The results further suggest that ocean levels continue to rise long after warming of the atmosphere levels off.
The study combined paleoclimate records with computer simulations of atmosphere-ocean interactions and the team’s co-authored paper is accepted for publication in Geophysical Research Letters.
How much did they get paid for that study? It takes about 10 seconds on Wikipedia to figure out that sea level rises even when temperatures are falling.

A Couple Of Legends
I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Gray and Fred Singer tonight over at CSU. Lots of very aggressive warmists in the crowd who were sure the world was coming to an end.

Australia “Scrambles To Deal With The Effects Of Climate Change”
Plummeting poll ratings for Mrs Gillard suggest that she has borne the brunt of voter anger at a plan – designed to punish the worst polluters – that many fear will devastate the economy as the country scrambles to deal with the effects of climate change.
Australia relies on cheap coal for power generation but in the process has become the developed world’s worst producer of greenhouse gases.
Which effects? Cool temperatures? Abundant rain and snow?
This has to be the world’s stupidest religion. Faith brings no gain, only pain. It is more like a suicide cult.
