Record Cold Persists In Darwin, Australia

Little relief for Darwin as record cold continues
Press Release, Thursday June 30, 2011 – 13:47 EST
After a record cold May and now a record cold June, Darwin is struggling to thaw out and there’s little relief in sight, according to weatherzone.com.au.

Combining daytime and nighttime temperatures, the city averaged just 22.5 degrees, a whopping two-and-half degrees colder than the long-term average and three degrees colder than June last year.

The previous coldest June was in 1949 when the average temperature was 22.7 degrees. The only other colder month in about 71 years of records was in July 1965, when the average was 22.5.

Nights have been the clincher, the coldest on record for June. Overnight minimums averaged 16.1 degrees, almost four degrees below than the long-term norm of 19.9. The previous June record for low minimums was 16.8, in 1949. There was only one colder month in the last 71 years, in July 1965, when the average was 15.8.

Days were the second coldest on record, for any month. On average, days were one-and-a half degrees colder than the long-term norm, averaging 29 degrees, compared to 30.6. The previous record was in June 1949, when the average was 28.7.

How Is That Global Warming Working Out For You Evo?

http://wxmaps.org/pix/temp8.html

AMY GOODMAN: What does climate debt mean, President Morales?

PRESIDENT EVO MORALES: [translated] After the destruction of Mother Earth, it’s important to recognize the rights of Mother Earth. And the best way to recognise this is by paying a climate debt. Second, it’s important to recognise the damages that have been done and attend to the people who have been affected by climate change, people who will lose their island homes, for example, people who will remain without water.

AMY GOODMAN: Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, said today, “We can’t look back; we have to look forward.”

PRESIDENT EVO MORALES: [translated] Looking forward means that we have to review everything that capitalism has done. These are things that cannot just be solved with money. We have to resolve problems of life and humanity. And that’s the problem that planet earth faces today. And this means ending capitalism.

During the three year period from 1886 to 1888, the US was hit by 14 hurricanes. By contrast, it has now been almost three years since any hurricane hit the US. And it has been nineteen years since  a category five hurricane struck the US.

Global warming scoundrels claim that we are having “unprecedented extreme weather” in the US due to CO2.

Romm Declares The Current Drought Worse Than The Dust Bowl

What’s more ironic is that the Senate’s leading climate denier bailed on the annual Heartland climate science denial conference this morning — saying “I am under the weather” (!) — just as his home state is being slammed by a record-smashing heatwave and a drought more severe than the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.

Good call Joe. Check out August, 1936

http://docs.lib.noaa.gov/rescue/mwr/064/mwr-064-08-c1.pdf

YTD precipitation in Oklahoma was drier in 1895, 1936, 1996, 1963, 1917, 1972, 1896, 1971, 1962, 1910, 1956, 1925, 2003 and 1934. YTD precipitation is almost 50% higher than 1895.

Romm is simply making up statistics – once again.
