Global Warming May Push Joshua Trees Out of Namesake National Park

two recent papers detailing future climate scenarios for Joshua Tree National Park and the Joshua tree’s natural range are projecting tough times for this venerable Southwest icon.

The first study, published in the January issue of the journal “Ecological Applications,” detailed climate models that project that the Joshua tree may see its current range of southern Nevada, southwestern Utah, western Arizona, and southeastern California reduced by as much as 90 percent within a 60-to-90-year timeframe.

Brilliant research. Once California stops being cold, it will get really hot.

“US finds massive melt at Greenland ice sheet” In 2010

They say that sea level rise rates are underestimated.

ftp://ftp.aviso.oceanobs.com/

THE Greenland ice sheet melted at the fastest rate since 1958 last year while Arctic sea ice shrank to the third-smallest area on record, an Obama administration report on global climate reveals.

‘This report makes one thing very clear: global warming isn’t coming, it’s already here,” Democrat Representative Edward Markey of the House Natural Resources Committee, said. ”The slow boil of the Earth is now rolling, and now we need to find ways to turn down the heat, and fast.” The Greenland ice sheet melted at the fastest rate in 53 years, with the melt area about 8 per cent larger than the record set in 2007, according to the report.

”We’re continuing to closely track these indicators because it’s quite clear that the climate of the past can’t be assumed to represent the climate of the future,” Thomas Karl, director of NOAA’s National Climatic Data Centre in Asheville, North Carolina, said.

In March, an American National Aeronautics and Space Administration-funded study said ice losses in Greenland and Antarctica were accelerating, suggesting the United Nations’ estimates for sea-level rise are too conservative. A UN panel on climate change predicted in 2007 that global sea levels would rise by 18 to 59 centimetres this century.

No Wildfire on Laboratory Property; Active Air Monitoring Underway

First High-Volume Air Samples Come in ‘Clean’
LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico June 28, 2011 – Despite no wildfire currently on Los Alamos Laboratory property, the Laboratory has established a network of seven high-volume air samplers along the southern, northern and eastern boundaries of Laboratory property to verify that hazardous materials are not leaving the Laboratory in smoke from the fire. Preliminary results of air samples taken at Los Alamos National Laboratory boundaries show no radioactive materials from Laboratory operations or legacy waste in smoke from the Las Conchas fire. “There are no wildfires burning on Lab property and our nuclear and hazardous materials are accounted for and protected,”

Big Bucks For Alarmists

Leaders of 15 top Big Green environmental groups are paid more than $300,000 in annual compensation, according to an Examiner analysis of the organizations’ most recent IRS Form 990 tax returns.

At $584,232, the Conservation Fund’s Richard L. Erdmann, the group’s executive vice president and general counsel, is the most highly paid official among the 15 organizations examined. Erdman received $438,954 in salary and $145,278 in “other compensation,” according to the fund’s return. All figures cited are taken from 2008 returns unless otherwise noted.

The second most highly compensated is Environmental Defense Fund President Frederic Krupp, who receives total compensation of $496,174, including $446,072 in salary and $50,102 in other compensation.

Close behind Krupp among Big Green environmental movement executives is World Wildlife Fund President Carter Roberts, who was paid $486,394, including a salary of $439,327 and other compensation of $47,067.

The median salary among all 15 of the highest-paid Big Green environmental officials is $261,295, while the median total compensation for the 15 is $308,465.

Another AGW Icon Bites The Dust

First Lake Powell, and now this. It is too much for any alarmist to bear.

“no evidence of consistent, system-wide decline in coral cover since 1995

Disturbance and the Dynamics of Coral Cover on the Great Barrier Reef (1995–2009)
Kate Osborne,* Andrew M. Dolman,¤a Scott C. Burgess,¤b and Kerryn A. Johns

Received October 13, 2010; Accepted February 7, 2011.

While the limited data for the GBR prior to the 1980’s suggests that coral cover was higher than in our survey, we found no evidence of consistent, system-wide decline in coral cover since 1995. Instead, fluctuations in coral cover at subregional scales (10–100 km), driven mostly by changes in fast-growing Acroporidae, occurred as a result of localized disturbance events and subsequent recovery.

Fox News Joins In The Alarmism

The threw in a photo taken several days ago with a very long lens. The fire is not burning on laboratory property, it is very unlikely that it will, and even if it did the nuclear materials are secure. The GFX/WRF forecast is for light winds and higher humidity. NCEP is calling for lots of rain over the next two weeks, as the monsoon season kicks into high gear.

Does Digging A Well Make The Elevation Of Your House Higher?

The Global Isostatic Adjustment (GIA) is one of the biggest frauds in climate science. They add 3mm/year to sea level rise rates – based on the idea that the sea floor is sinking due to glacial rebound.

This is equivalent to claiming that digging a deeper well raises the level of the water table.

Clowns, Or Criminals?

From NOAA’s “2010 State of the Climate” report :

Sea Level

* Sea level continued to rise across the world’s oceans on average.

http://www.washingtonpost.com

All of the satellites showed sea level dropping sharply in 2010. ESA’s Envisat showed sea level at the lowest level since they started taking measurements in 2004.

NOAA Defies The Most Fundamental Laws Of Physics

(AFP) – 5 hours ago

WASHINGTON — Greenland’s ice sheet melted the most it has in over a half century last year, US government scientists said Tuesday in one of a series of “unmistakable” signs of climate change.

“The world continues to warm,” the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in a briefing paper for reporters.

“Multiple indicators, same bottom-line conclusion: consistent and unmistakable signal from the top of the atmosphere to the bottom of the oceans.”

http://www.google.com/

If the ice sheets are melting down, then the melted water has to go into the ocean. Sea level has to rise. Problem is, sea level plummeted during the hottest year ever – 2010. To make matters worse, they also claimed near record oceanic heat content and sea surface temperatures – which further undermines their ice sheet story.

Proving once again that you don’t have to know any science to be a climate scientist. In fact, it helps if you don’t.
