Cut From The Same Mold

You heed Camping. After his prophecy went poof, the 89-year-old minister went on his California radio show, said there was a “spiritual” judgment May 21 and revealed the world would definitely conclude its business Oct. 21.

Likewise, the computer simulators are ever revising content, rearranging old prognostications to comply with past reality and telling us that if not all transpired exactly as they originally said, stay tuned. It will next time.

Temperatures Plummet While CO2 Emissions Show Record Growth

The Guardian is no longer capable of differentiating between temperature and CO2. Mention CO2, they drool. It works every time.

Global warming: Bleaker and bleaker
New figures show we are still hurtling towards dangerous climate change – at a time when policymakers are running out of ideas

Sometimes a quotation really does say it all. As chief economist of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol is not given to overstatement – so his comment in our paper today that the latest figures on greenhouse gas emissions are “the worst news” should be taken seriously. It is not just that the statistics showing another record leap in carbon output – 30.6 gigatonnes of CO2 over 2010 – to make the highest annual total in history are grim.

Repeat : Funniest Video Of The Month

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc0s358b3Ys]

This cracks me up every time I see it.

It highlights the sharp distinction between the exuberance and happiness of youth, and the mentally ill adults trying to take their happiness away from them – under the guise of “protecting” them.

People like Gore, Hansen and Obama seem to have an insatiable need to have people pay attention to them 24×7.

2009 : Obama On Nation Building

 March 22, 2009

WASHINGTON — The United States must look for a way out of the war in Afghanistan, President Obama said, in a signal that the military build-up in Afghanistan will not be open-ended

Mr. Obama also signaled that the United States was redefining its mission in Afghanistan, away from the Bush administration’s broader strategy of promoting democracy, civil society and governance in Afghanistan and toward getting the country to a point where it is not used to start attacks on the United States.

The Future Of Greenland

Global warming is predicted to raise temperatures in Greenland by 10-15C, which would make living conditions there unbearable.

Two Weeks After The Obama Administration Warned Of Western Drought, Record Floods Are Expected On The Colorado River

Sheriff: Floods Are Coming
River May Reach Record Levels

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Emergency managers are gearing up for potential flooding, and say the Colorado River could reach record levels in the coming weeks.

Right now the river is at about nine feet. It peaked at 14 feet back in 1984, causing serious flooding.

“We haven’t seen potential water like this in many years,” says Mesa County Emergency Manager Andy Martsolf.

Martsolf is in charge of the plan once that water overflows its banks.
“We’re proactively filling some sandbags in the Plateau Valley area in Collbran,” he says. “We also have barricades pre-positioned so we can channel water to keep roads open.”

The World Began In 1950

The latest scam of alarmists has been to pretend that we don’t know what the weather was like before 1950. The consensus of science now consists of the opinion of an assistant geography professor.

The deadliest tornadoes in decades. Severe flooding on the Mississippi River. Drought in Texas, and heavy rains in Tennessee.

What’s up with the weather?

Scientists say there are connections between many of the severe weather events of the past month and global warming.

“Basically, as we warm the world up, the atmosphere can hold more moisture in it,” said Anne Jefferson, an assistant professor in the geography and Earth science department at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.

“Weather patterns that used to be limited to the South move farther north now,” she said. “Both of those things together will increase the frequency with which we see these big rainstorms, and those are likely to increase flooding in the future.”

Flooding on the Mississippi has become more frequent and more extensive since about 1950, Jefferson said. This year’s huge flood was created by snowmelt and rain-on-snow in the upper Mississippi River basin, and very intense rain in its middle regions.

Obama Delivers On His Promise Of “Skyrocketing Energy Costs”

The forecast for the summer driving season: Hit the road early. Not to beat the traffic, but to beat the higher gas prices expected in mid-July.

Goldman Sachs’ crystal ball is proclaiming that oil will soon soar to $135 a barrel, and likely have service stations jacking up fuel prices to $5 a gallon in New York just like the summer of 2008 that preceded the recession.

Indeed, analysts say Goldman and the other oil trading giant that also has the might to move prices, JPMorgan Chase, have already placed their energy bets for the summer. JPMorgan predicts oil hitting $130 a barrel in the coming weeks.

Has Andy Revkin Become A Bona-Fide Skeptic?

“STABLE CLIMATE OF PAST 12,000 YEARS?” HARDLY

A @DailyBeast story By Sharon Begley, besides claiming a link between this epic tornado season and global warming, also includes this unsupported line: “From these and other extreme-weather events, one lesson is sinking in with terrifying certainty. The stable climate of the last 12,000 years is gone.”
Separate from the tornado non-issue, anyone positing that we’re entering a new period of uniquely freaky climate conditions after an equable Holocene Epoch hasn’t looked at any lake beds. A couple examples:

– Sub-Saharan Africa’s multi-millennium pattern of mega-super-uber-droughts beyond anything experienced in recent centuries.

– The northeastern United States’ lake-bed record of unbelievably astounding super-deluges, which make the epic flooding events of recent history look mild by comparison. In other words, the “flood of record” for Vermont, in November 1927 (amazing video), appears to be 10 times less powerful than truly epic gullywashers occurring with some regularity in recent millenniums.

The last 200 years have been pretty comfy, but the last few thousand – let alone 12,000 – hardly!

The overstatements are unfortunate because the story makes some important points about the lack of focus on building resilience to climate extremes — a no-brainer already and particularly important as building greenhouse gases jog the system (and as human numbers crest).

Global warming will surely tip the odds toward some unpleasant surprises, but recent human history has barely tasted what nature can serve up.
