Hansen : 25 Metres Of Sea Level Rise This Century

How far can it go? The last time the world was three degrees warmer than today – which is what we expect later this century – sea levels were 25m higher. So that is what we can look forward to if we don’t act soon. None of the current climate and ice models predict this. But I prefer the evidence from the Earth’s history and my own eyes. I think sea-level rise is going to be the big issue soon, more even than warming itself.

That could happen. We just need to have a 10,000 percent speedup in sea level rise rates.

It’s hard to say what the world will be like if this happens. It would be another planet. You could imagine great armadas of icebergs breaking off Greenland and melting as they float south. And, of course, huge areas being flooded.

Yes you could, if you are on some sort of very strong medication.

Arnie Brags That Very Few Jobs Are Being Created In California

Nothin’ from nothin’ leaves nothin’ …..

“Meeting the challenges of a green energy future requires that we all learn from each other – US from Brazil and Brazil from examples like California. Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke here about how breaking a new path towards a green energy future has created more jobs in California than traditional industry and service sectors. Brazil has the potential to be a world leader in promoting sustainable energy at a global scale,” concluded Cameron.

Temperatures Have Risen 5C

“During this prehistoric event billions of tons of carbon was released into the ocean, atmosphere and biosphere, causing warming of about 5 degrees Celsius,” Bowen said. “This is a good analog for the carbon being released from fossil fuels today.”

Climate Scientists Prove That Drought Is Not Caused By CO2

The Dust Bowl — the seven-year drought that devastated large swathes of US prairie land in the 1930s — was the worst prolonged environmental disaster recorded for the country. But a study of the American Southwest’s more distant climatic past reveals that the catastrophic drought was a mere dry spell compared to the ‘mega-droughts’ that were recurring long before humans began to settle the continent.

http://www.nature.com/

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

Hansen : http://www.giss.nasa.gov/

The 350 ppm drought was nothing like the 310 ppm drought, which was nothing like the 280 ppm drought. Maybe we need more CO2 to eliminate droughts completely?

Divergence Between GISS And HadCRUT

GISS is the red plot with the green trend. HadCRUT is the blue plot with the red trend. Temperatures are at the same scale and normalized to 1998. GISS has gone up 0.15C while HadCRUT has gone down slightly.

Nice work Jim!

The Death Spiral Visualized

Can there be any doubt that we are headed for an ice free Arctic by 2013?

Saving The Planet By Working Both Ends At The Same Time

The planet hasn’t actually warmed over the last decade or so, but we have to keep the numbers going up. This requires new and creative ways to measure temperatures in the absence of thermometers.

At the same time, we can blame cold (La Nina) events like the Pakistan and Queensland floods, record snowfall, record cold, etc. on the artificial warming which we fabricated in paragraph one.

The icing on the cake is to call 2010 a La Nina year, and 2011 an El Nino year.

Got it? Now bring our Earth Day message to the world. People are better off without electricity anyway, as they proved in Japan last month.

Deluded, Misled Or Dishonest?

People who claim that the climate was “better” in the past are either deluded, misled or simply dishonest. There is abundant evidence that nature has always been harsh. After the MWP, every single person in Greenland died. The Anasazi and other civilizations disappeared during the MWP.

It will always be possible to find places which had more hospitable environmental conditions at some point in the past, and vice-versa.

The lack of warming has caused much of the global warming community to cross the line into blatant fraud. Cold is not caused by heat or lack of ice. Fewer hurricanes and tornadoes does not mean more hurricanes and tornadoes. Filling in pink temperatures will not make the Earth warmer. Lying about the Arctic will not make the ice disappear.

Climate Deniers – Worse Than Holocaust Deniers

Hamilton: Denying the coming climate holocaust
by Clive Hamilton
Climate sceptics resent being called deniers because of the odium associated with Holocaust revisionism.

Even critics of the sceptics are careful to distance themselves from the implication that they are comparing climate denialism with Holocaust denialism for fear of being seen to trivialise the Holocaust by suggesting some sort of moral equivalence.

Judgments about moral equivalence depend on the ethical standpoint one adopts.

For consequentialists the morality of an action is judged by its outcomes. For those who adopt this ethical standpoint, any assessment of the consequences of the two forms of truth-rejection would conclude that climate deniers deserve greater moral censure than Holocaust deniers because their activities are more dangerous.

Energy Crisis Solved!

There’s really no question at all that CO2 molecules emit heat. It seems like the onus is on them to explain how you can add heat to the surface without warming it up.
