Two More Global Warming Icons Being Threatened

http://lakepowell.water-data.com/

Until recently, Lake Powell was a favorite AGW poster child. It proved that the western US was doomed to permanent drought. Unfortunately though for alarmists, water levels have risen almost 60 feet since 2005. NASA wrote this less than a year ago :

Combined with water withdrawals that many believe are not sustainable, the drought has caused a dramatic drop in Lake Powell’s water level over the past decade.

Of course the Ministry of Information didn’t bother to mention that the trend reversed five years ago. But now they have another problem. With abundant snowpack in the Colorado River drainage, dam operators are releasing large amounts of water out of the dam into the other favorite AGW icon – Lake Mead.

Life In The Wind Tunnel

We have been getting blasted with one Chinook after another here along the Colorado Front Range. On the other side of the Continental Divide it has been cold and snowy, but we have been warm, windy and dry. I nearly got blown off my bike twice yesterday up in the mountains, and this morning is a gale along the plains, with temperatures in the 50s.

NOAA Forecasts “Well Above 50%” Chance That La Nina Will Continue Until Next Year

This is a complete disaster for alarmists.

Stay tuned for the next update (by April 9th, or earlier) to see where the MEI will be heading next. While La Niña conditions are guaranteed well into 2011, it remains to be seen whether it will indeed last into 2012, as discussed seven months ago on this page. I believe the odds for a two-year event remain well above 50%, notwithstanding the possibility of temporary weakening during boreal summer. During the next few months, the MEI may very well stay stronger than Niño 3.4 since the latter is not normalized to account for weaker variability during this time of year.

McKibben Rambles Incoherently About Tsunamis And Global Warming : “sea levels have begun to rise”

Are these people completely ignorant, dishonest, or both? The tsunami had absolutely nothing to do with global warming. Sea level has been rising for 20,000 years. A 30 foot wave traveling several hundred miles an hour is unaffected by a couple of millimeters of difference in sea level. The stupidity is enough to make you scream.
