Slow Week

I am going to be working in Connecticut this week and will be posting irregularly from my low carbon netbook. This will compensate for the plane obliterating the atmosphere on the flight out.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Apologies to the Penguins and Wolverines and Polar Bears and Walruses whos lives will be disrupted permanently by the airplane. I do have a bicycle lined up in Connecticut, but I understand that my exhaling CO2 will also kill Penguins – so not much consolation there.

The Usual Romm Joke

Romm Ups The China BS Ante

Now he’s claiming that the drought in China is the worst in 200 years. Yesterday the claim was 6o years., despite the fact that the Beijing Climate Center shows 0% of the country in extreme drought.

Same story in the press, over and over again.

Page 4

http://news.google.com/newspapers

“The primary cause of famine almost invariably has been the failure of food crops. This failure has often resulted from a variety of natural causes – long-continued drought, blasting hot winds, insect armies, earthquakes, severe and untimely frosts, and destructive inundation

Which Climate Impacts, Joe?

Is Romm talking about the hot, dry impacts? Or maybe he is talking about the cold snowy impacts? Or maybe the drought, or the flood, or the hurricanes or the lack of hurricanes.

His story about the impacts of global warming changes every few months. Exactly how do you prepare for the wide variability of weather – which has been going on for billions of years?

First preparation is to quit listening to charlatans.

Snow In Cupertino

http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-news/ci_17490259?source=rss&nclick_check=1

I was living there during the 1998-1999 La Nina, and remember heavy snow accumulation in the Santa Cruz mountains above Palo Alto – which lasted for a few days. July 4, 1998 was so cold in Cupertino that we had to bundle up in blankets to watch the fireworks at De Anza College.

Why Is Scientific American So Ill Informed About Earth Sciences?

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=why-are-americans-so-ill

————————————————————————————————————-

I’m baffled about how clueless the writers at that magazine are. Glaciers have been melting for the last 15,000 years. That is why they call it an “interglacial” period.  15,000 years ago Chicago was buried under a mile of ice.

As far “island populations retreating from coastlines” goes, the Maldives are building a new airport right on their coast. The Maldives sea level scam is a way to extract money from guilty westerners, with the help of useful idiots who write magazine articles.
