There is only one public weather station located on the ice sheet, and temperatures never got above freezing there this summer.

Melting of Greenland ice sheet set new record in 2010, as some areas in the second largest ice body in the world experienced melting for longer duration last year, says a research conducted by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and City College of New York.
Covering 80 percent of the surface of Greenland country, the ice sheet is prone to effects of global warming. Melting of this ice sheet is expected to significantly rise the sea levels in the coming decades.
“Bare ice is much darker than snow and absorbs more solar radiation,” said Dr Tedesco. “This means the old ice is warming, melting, and running off into the sea.”
Meanwhile, sea level has dropped 20 mm since the start of the “record melt year” and is lower than it was in 2006.

It was the largest forest fire in American history. Maybe even the largest forest fire ever. No one knows for sure, but even now, it is hard to put into words what it did.
For two terrifying days and night’s – August 20 and 21, 1910 – the fire raged across three million acres of virgin timberland in northern Idaho and western Montana.
Depending on who was doing the counting, there were either 1,736 fires burning in northern Idaho and western Montana on August 19, or there were 3,000. It did not much matter which number you picked because on August 20 it seemed like there was only one fire burning, and it was the sum total of all the others that had been burning the day before.

Please make us safe from CO2, Dr. Hansen!
Now that President Obamaofkenya has convinced the Chinese to stop emitting greenhouse gases, where do we stabilize the climate? Maybe at 309 ppm, like in 1935?
Planet warms up to a record

LAST year was equal to the hottest on record and the amount of sea ice in the Arctic shrank to the lowest level ever observed in December, the World Meteorological Organisation has confirmed.
The 10 warmest years since modern measurement began in 1850 have now all occurred since 1998.
The Queensland floods were cited by the organisation, along with those in Pakistan and the Russian heatwave, as among a high number of extreme weather events across the world in 2010.
Cape Coast, Jan. 20, GNA – Ghana’s 0.05 contribution to the greenhouse gases (GHG) such as carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane has been described as minimal, yet, it is one of the countries to suffer the greatest impact of climate change.
This is due to the fact that the effect of the phenomenon on tropical countries is higher.
GHG are responsible for the warming of the earth and scientific evidence indicates that due to activities of man, they had greatly increased over the years impacting negatively on agriculture thereby threatening food security in most tropical countries. Mr Theodore Asimeng, an officer of the Environmental Application Technology, said this at a day’s training workshop on “Climate Change and Right to Food in Ghana,” organized by the Central Regional branch of the General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU) with support from Action Aid Ghana in Cape Coast on Thursday.

Rising temperatures during the day are due to increasing CO2, and at night CO2 levels decrease – causing temperatures to plummet.
