Guardian Goes Completely Incoherent

First they say :

Area the size of Ireland could be lost to conventional farming as global warming accelerates, says environmental study?

Then :

Plans to make European motorists use more biofuels could take an area the size of Ireland out of food production by 2020 and accelerate climate change, a study has found.

So let’s get this straight. Greens come up with a stupid idea to combat global warming, Then they blame their idea on global warming. Brilliant.

October 10, 1780 – The Deadliest Atlantic Hurricane

27,500 people died when the storm passed through the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean between October 10 and October 16.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Hurricane_of_1780

That was 84,035 days ago. Atmospheric CO2 was 280 ppm.

It has now been 787 days since any hurricane hit the US.

6,651 days since a category 5 hurricane hit the US. And 27,460 days since the most powerful hurricane hit the US in 1935.

Hansen’s “Most Compelling Data” Flushed Down The Toilet

2007

The most compelling data for the net change of ice sheets is provided by the gravity satellite mission GRACE, which shows that both Greenland (Chen et al 2006) and Antarctica (Velicogna andWahr 2006) are losing mass at substantial rates.

2010

Those are scary numbers, but a new study published in the September issue of Nature Geoscience suggests that the true melt rate might be much slower than that. (Access a PDF of the study here.) A joint team of American and Dutch scientists took another look at the GRACE data and found that Greenland and West Antarctica may be melting  just half as fast the earlier studies estimated. As researcher Bert Vermeersen, a professor at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, told the AFP, the earlier estimates failed to account for glacial isostatic adjustment—the rebounding of the Earth’s crust after the end of the last Ice Age:

Success in science depends on objective skepticism. Caution, if not reticence, has its merits.

The Past Decade Had The Snowiest Winters On Record

According to Rutgers University Global Snow Lab, the past decade had the snowiest winters on record.

Winter temperatures have been plummeting, and we are seeing record amounts of snow. This is not due to global warming and it is time for the climate science community to start being honest with themselves.

Winter Temperatures Plummeting In The Northern Hemisphere Over The Last Decade

Over the past decade, winter temperatures over most of the US, Canada, Europe, Russia and much of Asia have been falling at a rate of five to fifty degrees C per century.

Romm : CO2 Worse Than A Giant Asteroid

Hopefully annoying little weasels will be among the extinct species.

Nice Complement From Romm

The big story today is that two different groups of scientists are organizing efforts to respond to the most effective and self-destructive disinformation campaign in human history.

Weird. I thought that the IPCC was the “most effective and self-destructive disinformation campaign in human history.”

the challenge is enormous given that the disinformers and confusionists have many advantages including a big head start, much more money

I keep hearing about the money, but I’m not getting my share. I wish that Joe would publish some information about who is providing all this skeptic money.

Nothing To See Here – Move Along

Military says it was an airplane. And monkeys are going to fly out of my …..

They have no clue what it is, but they know for sure that it wasn’t a threat. Sounds like climate science logic.

Iowa Trying To Outdo Austin And College Station

CO2 turned me into a newt. Universities in Iowa take global warming dissonance to a new level.

A panel of representatives from the three state universities is raising concerns about climate change in Iowa. The group is reporting a trend toward warmer temperatures and heavier precipitation, which will likely impact future government policies. The Iowa Legislature asked the 10-member panel to study changes in the state’s climate over the past 50 years.

The panel found winter temperatures in Iowa have risen by nearly two-tenths of a degree Fahrenheit per decade over that time. The number of severe rain storms has increased by more than 30%. State Senator Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids says he doesn’t believe the situation will improve.

Iowa has had three straight very cold winters. And how terribly clever of them to pick fifty years. Why not eighty years?

NPR : Climate Change Is A Matter Of National Survival

According to NOAA, sea level in that region is not changing.

Did anyone bother to spend three minutes checking that out before flying there?
