It is widely reported that spring snow cover is declining due to global warming. Turns out that the decline is pretty small and that it all occurred between 1981 and 1988 – during a particularly strong ENSO period. Also, the lowest spring extent occurred in 1968, right at the start of the Rutgers records.

Cook believes that CO2 “controls the climate” – because CO2 is changing and the climate is changing.

There are several logical fallacies with his belief system.

1. The climate always changes, regardless of what CO2 is doing
2. Lots of things affecting the climate are changing, besides CO2
3. Until climatologists understand what caused past climate change, they certainly can’t claim to know that current climate change is different.

NOAA claims that the extensive snow cover last winter was due to Arctic warming and loss of sea ice.

Note that there has been no trend for as long as Rutgers has been keeping records, and that the snowiest winter was 1978, which was a period of very thick, extensive ice cover. It was also the coldest winter on record in the US.

The cold and snow last winter was due to a very negative Arctic Oscillation, and the NOAA explanation appears to have successfully confused the entire press corps into believing otherwise.

Amazing! It just appeared overnight.

Last year, the looney left was having a ball hurling insults at the rag tag, irrelevant, stupid, sexually deviant, ignorant, redneck, no nothings in the Tea Party movement.  They knew that their man Obama was going to kick ass! They knew that their  intellectual superiority, massive deficit spending, erratic policies, taxes, government takeovers and fraud would rule the day.

18 months later they are about to get their butts kicked, and have changed their tune.  Now Monbiot claims that the Tea Party is a conspiracy of billionaires.
