When one eventially does hit, it is certain that they will blame it on “climate change” one way or the other.
Another certainty is that the National Hurricane Center will race through the alphabet, naming every cumulus cloud in the middle of nowhere, thus “proving” that there are more hurricanes.
Andy, did you catch the two storms last year? They were only hurricanes for one pass, yet they named them.
Julia was a major hurricane for about 10 minutes 3,000 miles offshore. No doubt they would have logged that one 70 years ago.
It is the new null hypothesis: Every (bad) weather event is caused by climate change – it is unequivocal. It is up to the denialists to prove it is not caused by CO2 – according to Trenberth.
He will have a lot more time on his hands to reivew deniers claims now that Hansen found his missing heat.

No way!! I was just told the hurricanes are intensifying!! Maybe he meant they would be intensifying if they were to materialize………
CO2 causes hurricanes to be more frequent and more powerful, except for when it makes them less frequent and less intense. Much the same way volcanos cause huge amount of CO2 to heat up the atmosphere, unless they cause cooling through aerosols. It just depends on how you need to tweek the models.
The naming of tropical storms is very subjective. There was a storm a couple Septembers back that went inland over Myrtle Beach with 50 mph winds which was clearly a tropical storm, but they didn’t name it. Someone at the NHC got a bug up his rear end that it was “extratropical”.
They used to have a category for “unnamed” tropical storms, ones that somehow were not detected at the time they existed. I was in Florida when one of those hit with near hurricane force winds, which resulted in several fatalities. It came up from near Panama, but somehow was determined by the NHC to be extratropical.
In any event, the trend over recent years is to name very questionable stuff that would never have been named say 30 years ago. The NHC forecasts a large number of storms before the season starts and then have to name phantom storms to make their forecast verify. That is a pretty obvious trick.
With respect to the aforementioned Mytrle Beach storm a couple years back, they had already met their quota and thus did not name a storm that was real.
They haven’t changed that hurricane prediction yet? They’ve changed other predictions. Why haven’t the changed their hurricane prediction yet?
It’s not “Climate Change”. It’s “Prediction Change”.
Prediction Change. I like that. But predictions don’t always change while the climate does. So maybe crank it up to Prediction Disruption?
And there seem to be more Extreme Prediction Events. Up to 90% of the human population wiped out, and untold carnage to pikas.
Soon a tipping point and Runaway Predictions. Or are we already there?
