An intelligent person will take that information and recognize that climate is cyclical. A mental midget will take that some information and conclude that climate is linear or exponential.

When I was young a “Ripley’s Beleive It Or Not” book had a story about a headless chicken that lived for 2 weeks. I only remember as the book said it was in my home town. I asked about it and the old timers claim it was true.

An intelligent person has to ask: “If this is the worst since 18XX or 19XX, what caused it THEN?” Now we’ve gone 2011-18XX years and we didn’t even beat the record? WTF kind of apocalypse is that? It automatically means the trend (of intensity) is DOWN.
All you hear the past few weeks about the tornados is that it is the worst tornado outbreak in 50 years. That means it happened before, and within the past 50 years. How does that equate to something unusual or unprecedented? That kind of logic is only accepted by lemmings who lack critical thinking skills.
Do you ever hear how much more property damage and casualties there are during this outbreak as compared to 50 years ago based on how much more densely populated these areas are? Will we ever see an honest assessment of that aspect of the situation?
There are no Honest assessments by the Chicken Little Brigade. It can only be “Worse Than We Thought”.
Mike, you forgot these oldies but goodies: “just as predicted by climate models”, or “which is perfectly consistent with global warming theory”.
All bad things are consistent with the model outputs even when they are good things.
Or, as asserted by Naomi Oreskes (here): “it’s exactly what scientists have predicted. And … in most cases scientists have actually underestimated the change”.
