In case you were wondering why Obamacare was timed for after the election, and why the MSM refused to ever ask Obama any serious questions.
Welch Allyn, a company that manufactures medical diagnostic equipment in central New York, announced in September that they would be laying off 275 employees, or roughly 10% of their workforce over the next three years. One of the major reasons discussed for the layoffs was a proactive response to the Medical Device Tax mandated by the new healthcare law.
A short list of other companies facing future layoffs at the hands of Obamacare:
Smith & Nephew – 770 layoffs
Abbott Labs – 700 layoffs
Covidien – 595 layoffs
Kinetic Concepts – 427 layoffs
St. Jude Medical – 300 layoffs
Hill Rom – 200 layoffsBeyond the complete elimination of a significant number of American jobs is another looming problem created by the health care law – a shift from full-time to part-time workers.
PICKET: Companies plan massive layoffs as Obamacare becomes reality – Washington Times
Reblogged this on Climate Ponderings.
The US now has the worst of all possible worlds when it comes to the economics of healthcare and the Republican ideology is not blameless either for the mess.
Medium income this year in the US, $50,400. Average spent per household on Healthcare $20,700. Yeah, it’s free alright.
Apples and oranges comparison, so it does not compute. Do you really expect us to take your comment seriously when you mix a median with a mean? At least try to find out what the median household medical care expenditures are and break them down so that we can see where the money is going (my guess, most of that 20K is premiums, but I can’t be sure since a mean would be heavily skewed by a few households with $1million in expenses in a single year). I hope your ‘yeah it is free alright’ is rhetorical. You don’t know what expensive medical care is until it is ‘free’.
Man I’ve seen so much of this over the last year, due to my job sending me to websites related to durable medical equipment. So many just plain going out of business or leaving the country. Most word their reasons delicately but essentially it comes down to they can’t afford to comply with Obamacare. They’re all being bought out buy two megacorporations. Soon, if not already, we will have a duopoly on durable medical equipment.
Believe it or not, there is hope. The Supremes have a two-fold ruling on ObamaCare, written by Chief Justice Roberts. First, OC does NOT fall under the Interstate Commerce Clause.
Second, the individual mandate is a tax. However a 19th Century law prevents anyone from suing over the legality of the tax, until it actually comes into effect, and a few courageous individuals say, “Up yours, Barry!”
Hey!
We don’t need no stinking “medical equipment”!
Leeches were good enough for great (great, great) grandpappy so it’s good enough for youse!
Besides, without any research, new equipment, new drugs, etc
we’ll save a ton of money…
and help eliminate the surplus population of people whose votes we couldn’t buy!
There is more economic misery that has gone unreported than reported, Noone is talking about what the Frank Dodd nonsense has done to the financial industry internally. I have witnessed massive “layoffs” of middle class workers, employees with decades of service are being targeted because of the cost associated with keeping them. If these folks do find work, it is for much less than they were making before. Institutions are outsourcing this work, shifting to part time where applicable (thankyou Obamacare), or hiring replacements at much lower salaries.
I have yet to meet anyone who is paying less for healthcare now, everyone I speak with is paying much, much more.
Here’s an eviscerating article from Thomas Sowell.. http://www.ocregister.com/opinion/people-376958-obama-laws.html
Obamacare is designed to extract the maximum from business. The waiver is a hypocritical power grab.
Sowell has been a favorite of mine for years. Unvarnished truth from a man who truly loves his country..
Amen Brother!
The Obama mandate from the election is laughable as well.
Obama doesn’t even understand that hes responsible for enforcing the law, not creating laws. Nobody in the press is willing to point this out though. http://www.tennessean.com/viewart/20121110/NEWS08/311100040/Obama-sees-mandate-raising-taxes?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE%7Cs
Yep. I have had a few arguments with people when I tell them that it wasn’t or isn’t the government’s job/business in the first place.
