You could make a fortune preying on neurotic lefties – if you could stomach listening to them.
Ethical living: Can I fly with a clear conscience?
I’d like to travel by plane, but it seems iniquitous that air fares are so low. Can you offer me any reasons why I might fly with a clear conscience?
It is time for the aviation industry to pay the ferryman. Hitherto flying has soared above climate change regulation but from 30 April 2013 the EU dictates that it must sign up to emissions trading. In common with other heavily polluting industries, this means putting a cap on CO² emissions for planes arriving or departing from EU airports. Airlines would trade in pollution permits on an aviation carbon market. The theory is that fleets that are low carbon would be rewarded and this would incentivise airlines to invest in eco-friendly fleets.

I presume that an eco-friendly fleet would recycle methane from the toilet straight into the engine. Another possibility is that every tenth flight would simply drop out of the sky. Or maybe they could burn corn instead of sending it to Africa for children to eat?
” it seems iniquitous that air fares are so low”
Sounds like the rantings of an overpaid journalist. She is the exception if she thinks air fares are cheap, just ask the working class.
‘The theory is that fleets that are low carbon would be rewarded and this would incentivise airlines to invest in eco-friendly fleets.’
Or, invest in flying to places other than the EU.
Why, exactly, is our government in the business of incentivizing (or disincencentivizing) anything?
i feel so bad…i left my car running the other day so i wouldn’t freeze my fingers after scrapping off the frost on the windshield, so that when i got in the car, i could put my hands on the heater to warm them up…shame on me for putting all that co2 in the air….(sarc of course!)
Lance, Any more snow up your way? Why move to Phoenix? With a warming planet, wouldn’t you expect retirees in Phoenix to want to winter in Calgary?
Chinook winds took care of that, however cold (aka GW) just arrived this morning, temps have dropped 6C in 1 hour and continue to drop this morning.
These people won’t care about these fantasies in a few years from now, when the rest of the world stops buying US treasury bonds. Then the biggest concern will be, how do I pay my bills?
I don’t recall Al Gore being afraid of flying. Maybe Al doesn’t have a conscience?
He could always try flying without an airplane. First find a nice tall building…..
