Recognizing that open-minded progressives vote primarily based on the race and ethnicity of a candidate, Senator Marco Rubio has taken the lead in the 2016 presidential race. He probably should have been Romney’s VP pick.

The progressives will no doubt caricature Rubio as a Latin Uncle Tom if he threatens to derail the gravy train for Hispanics.
Andy, I think the key to the problem that you are wrestling with is to understand that Hispanics and other groups are not inherently inclined to want to be on the gravy train … and by corollary, White Anglo-Saxons are not inherently less inclined than others to want this. Falling into that trap can happen to anyone, regardless of their background … and getting (or staying) out of it can also happen to anyone, again regardless of background.
If you can convince Hispanics that conservatism and conservatives understand the above facts and that they take them into consideration on a daily basis, and that it dramatically affects their choices and decisions that they make … if you can show people these truths about conservatism and conservatives, and show them well enough that there is no doubt in their mind that it is true … then you can help make former liberals into conservatives.
But if all you have to bring to the discussion with them is that they basically want the gravy train, and want it to grow or at least sustain, because they are Hispanics, then you will only drive them further toward liberalism/progressivism. Following this latter course leads inevitably to a never-ending string of losses, and ever greater losses.
You’re in D.C., as I understand. The district something like, what, 17,000 votes for Romney? Is that just because so many there are minority (in which case, nothing can be done that would change it), or is it also partly because most of the voters are delusional and brainwashed to believe that liberal policies always help minorities, and conservatives policies always hurt them? Rhetorical question, if you like.

Reagan gave amnesty to several million illegals; no Republican has ever received more than 40% of the Hispanic vote before or since. The floods of illegals coming here will gravitate to the Party that promises them the most from the public treasury. Even TSA is putting out PSA’s informing “immigrants” on how to get theirs.
Baracka Clause will continue with the handouts in order to secure votes for generations to come.
As FDR’s aide proclaimed “we are going to spend and spend and spend, and tax and tax and tax, and elect and elect and elect”.
P.S. The demise of every republican form of government occurs when 51% of the electorate can rule the 49% by voting for tax increases on the “rich” (those that support them); mob rule. This is already the case in California. In the current climate nationally, unless opponents running against Democrats can promise more, they will lose.
In the coming months and years (it is already occurring), a new class of part-time workers is being created. They will be mostly reliant on government handouts for their subsistence, and in time come to expect it. The end result will be more than half the country will be supported by the minority; the death knell for any country. Just look at Europe.
Public education has dumbed down the population over the past 40 years to the point where the majority of students now believe socialism is a better economic system than capitalism. The country is finished IMO.
1. I don’t argue that conservative electoral success is necessarily possible from this point forward, but I can see possible paths to it, if conservatives can remain disciplined and refrain from labeling, attacking and writing off large swaths of the electorate as being hopeless.
2. Would you rather your side get 40% of Hispanics, or 0%? Your suggested strategy practically begs them to vote Democrat. In that case, kiss goodbye to all national electoral victory, for the indefinite future.
3. Furthermore, every racial and ethnic group that gets jettisoned in this way further alienates women, including Anglo women. How does any conservative win any race at any level, if the vast majority of White women have become so turned off by conservatism that they refuse to vote for conservative candidates? We’re not there yet, but a continued failure to communicate to them in language they can understand (since the majority of them clearly are not understanding what we’ve been saying) will bring us to that point.
4. To turn the tide, we must learn what has to be done differently, and then go out and do it. If we just say, “Let’s have the same, but more of it,” we’re doubling down on a strategy that is already a proven failure. That way lies utter disaster.

If Romney had picked an Hispanic or black as his running mate, he would have won. It has nothing to do with belief systems.
“If Romney had picked an Hispanic or black as his running mate, he would have won. It has nothing to do with belief systems.”
Uh, that may be true this one time; but will it still be true next time? Will it always be true?
