Fortunately, the 1990 IPCC report captured the pre-1979 satellite data, revealing how NSIDC is cherry-picking their 1979 start date at a local maximum.

This global warming thing is so strange, making lots of sea ice like that. I must be thick to not understand it. (Oh well my PhD was only in chemistry. If it was in something useful like political science or anthropology I’m sure I would understand it better.)

funny you should mention 1974 that was the year (or was it 1975?) where I was complaining all summer (I was about 12 maybe?) was cold, all I wanted to do was go swimming that whole summer and it was to darn cold!! I remember saying to myself when is it going to get out of the 70’s during the summer (ne ohio) funny what things you remember, that was the time period that lenard nemoy (spock) had narratted (sounds like his voice anyway) the documentary about how we were going to have an ice age in the near future. so if this is similar cycle then maybe we are heading for a warm up, then a cool down, cycle again. I hope it is a warm cycle for a few dozen years I hate the cold, humans do better in the warm then the cold (of course not the 120 degree warm but the 80 and 90’s type warmth is really nice.) longer growing seasons more rain in areas that problem don’t get much (because it is too darn cold to rain/snow) higher crop yields etc. bring on warmth, I need it. oh yea forgot when it is warmer you use less energy to keep warm. I would say warming is a plus.
