Five Years Later : Hansen Responsible For UK Mess

Blackout Britain: EU environmental directive puts millions at risk of power cuts

ONE million homes narrowly escaped a power cut last month as bitterly cold weather placed a massive strain on Britain’s creaking electricity network.

And as a spell of bitter cold once more hits the UK, the near switch-off which came so perilously close on that freezing afternoon, underscores the magnitude of the energy crisis.

Fawley is one of a number of coal and oil power stations being forced into retirement to comply with EU environmental targets.  The EU “large combustion plant directive”, aimed at cutting airborne pollution, will force ageing power stations to close by 2015. But they will be shut down before that if they use their allocated generating time earlier.

Britain is in trouble because they listened to NASA’s James Hansen five years ago, who was completely wrong about everything he told them.

Climate target is not radical enough

Hansen said his findings were not a recipe for despair. The good news, he said, is that reserves of fossil fuels have been exaggerated, so an alternative source of energy will have to be rapidly put in place in any case.

Other measure could include a moratorium on coal power stations which would bring the C02 levels to below 400ppm.  Hansen’s revised position will pile yet further pressure on Britain over plans to build a new generation of coal power stations. Last year he wrote to Gordon Brown urging him to block the first such power station; the Royal Society has made similar suggestions to the government.

Hansen has succeeded in doing what Hitler failed to do – bring Britain to her knees.

I posted this post on my Facebook page saying that: “Politicans have been listening to this idiot for far too long”. I think most people in the UK are slowly coming round to the fact that CAGW is a complete crock. It will take the politicians a while to come round, of course, but when they do they will change ships very quickly.

    • Jeff Todd says:

Politicians are like rabbits in the headlights on this one; they have libeled every energy user as a planet destroyer, their policies have killed people, cost jobs, devalued property, driven businesses abroad, etc.

IF they admit it, then some smart legal type will sue every one of them – and the greenies.

Until that issue can be resolved, they will keep very quiet.

      • Idiotboy says:

The political class are not fully aware of the hole they are in. They are hoping that a sharp up-turn in spring temperatures will stall the inevitable for a year or so. There will be nowhere for them to hide when this thing really bites next winter, especially if it coincides with the final death rasps of the European monetary project – a captivating slow motion train crash. I would not be surprised to see a few heads on poles shortly after that.

      • Marian says:

Yeah, Politicians are like rabbits in the headlights. Too blinded by UN policies.

        And of interest.

NZ is hosting the Pacific Energy Forum and one of its main goals is about promoting and funding substandard ‘Green Energy’ to Pacific Nations mainly to combat AGW/CC.

Note: The cash strapped EU is funding 25million Euro towards the energy projects.

Phil Jones is their equivalent to James and they certainly share their fears wherever & whenever they can. Even though they appear insane to the most casual observer, the media makes them look like heroes.
    Go Team go!

  3. Mike says:

History won’t forget Excel Phil’s role either.

  4. Eric Simpson says:

Iceagenow highlights the snowpocalypse like conditions in Belfast, and a good comment by eco-geek: At the opposite corner of the country, the far SE it is snowing this morning also and laying. Not a great deal but it is freezing also – a little lower than forecast temperatures and certainly for the coast here. The Met Office are forecasting the same for more of the same next week. The big question is: Will it snow in April?

This “Global Warming” is beginning to get a bit monotonous. Still the warmists have the temperature data to adjust upwards and tell us it is actually run-away warming and we need to close our power stations and cut down on our gas reserves – all of which is happening. Reserves are down to 36 hours. Hope the Met Office is wrong for next week.

    • Robert of Ottawa says:

Actually, I am almost hoping for complete disaster in the UK, then the people will wake up and do something about rule by eco-socialists.

      Pity.

  5. Scarface says:

Their contempt for human beings and their completely insain ideology is the reason I started calling them the Green Khmer.

Their killing fields are starting to show, when you sweep away the snow.

  6. CheshireRed says:

Screen grabs and internet archives will provide all the evidence needed to nail the abject claims of the likes of Hansen, the UK Met Office et al, and their MSM and government acolytes. The Guardian is nailed here, as they will be many times over. Their collective complicity in this fraud will not pass un-attributed.

  7. tckev says:

The real tragedy is the up-tick in death from cold that is expected from the cold weather.
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-204541/Deaths-cold-hit-2-500.html

Hansen and his kind wash their hands of this real cost to Britain.

  8. gator69 says:

To get Nuremberg style prosecution, we would first need to round up all the criminals who made all of this possible. The Nazis did not prosecute themselves.

    • Old Goat says:

Unfortunately, that would involve the Fourth Reich, and it’s mainly due to their climate stupidity (and Hansen’s, of course) that the Former UK is in the mess it finds itself. They need a change of government – UKIP fits the bill.

  9. TomC says:

Maybe someone has an answer to this…

What happened to the John Daly website?

  10. RealOldOne2 says:

You mention the Fawley power plant closure. Don’t forget the Didcot power station closure. http://www.didcot.gov.uk/news/Didcot-Power-Station.aspx
Closed because of the EU directives. What is wrong with the people of Britain? Isn’t the EU central planning wonderful. If the EU can screw up that continent so royally, can you imagine what the UN can do for the whole globe? Yes, it’s called Agenda21.

The hijacking of the environmental movement into this green insanity is literally killing people. Over 5,000 extra deaths because of the freezing temps (caused by global warming of course). http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2298246/UKs-coldest-spring-1963-claims-5-000-lives-Pensioners-worst-affected–experts-say-final-toll-horrendous.html

If countries continue on their misguided energy policies of shuttering cheap coal plants, the future death toll will be staggering, and it will hit the poor & the elderly the worst. These CAGW zealots are the real climate criminals with blood on their hands.

  11. They want the entire human population to be below 500,000. One way to work towards this goal is to convince everyone that it’s going to get hot, then shut off all their heat and freeze them to death.

  12. mwhite says:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-21906613

“23 March 2013 Last updated at 10:00 Help Didcot A, the coal-fired power station in Oxfordshire, has been disconnected from the national grid after 43 years of service.

It generated its last megawatt (MW) of electricity at 14:00 GMT on Friday with nine months of decommissioning starting on 31 March.

The station’s six iconic cooling towers will eventually be pulled down removing the notable landmark from the Oxfordshire skyline.”

  13. Justa Joe says:

Never in the field of climate science was so much suffering caused by so few to so many.

    • “97% of climate scientists” have allowed their good name to be used, and are criminally complicit, because of an epidemic incompetence in science. All of our institutions (AAAS, NAS, NOAA, NASA, NSA, etc.) let themselves be completely suborned, and utterly deluded, also. I would say never have so many fallen so far down in their professional and ethical responsibilities–and that includes the “lukewarmers”, not just the alarmists.

  14. Robert of Ottawa says:

The UK should tell the EU to get stuffed and do what they need to do. Of course, the current government won’t do that.

    • Mike says:

Cameron is doing this for the kids and the grand kids, his own.

As Cameron makes electricity more expensive and unstable, the value of his any inheritance for himself or his kids etc goes up and up. The wind turbines on the father in laws land are money printing machines for future inheritance.

Cameron gave the death sentence to cheap reliable energy in the UK, the EU was simply the convenient executioner to lay the blame.

  15. Mike says:

Tamper Hansen & Excel Phil must be ecstatic.

Making fossil fuel electricity and heat unaffordable(fuel poverty) would had a role in the 5,000 extra deaths of UK citizens. Environuts will also be wetting themselves, one obituary at a time. The irony of global cooling causing their imagined global warming deaths will be lost on them.

Wait till the carbon tax is rolled out on fuel, 10,000 deaths next years must now be a real target for the government.

  16. Brian G Valentine says:

You don’t hear a lot out of that f#cking Hansen unless the weather is warm.

  17. Larry Fields says:

Several years ago, I remember reading that Hansen had testified as an expert witness on behalf of some eco-vandals who had defaced a tower on a coal-fired power plant in England. WTSHTF, would it be possible for a British court to nail him for perjury?

  18. Chewer says:

Hopefully the MSM will show a bit of footage after Hansen/Jones come out of their daily visit by their 6′-9″ cell mate Gyro Jerry finishes his back rub on them.
On another note, two of our buddies are awaiting airlift and don’t know when the conditions will cooperate, especially after early fall arrived with surprises:
