We had no snow in any forecast for Fort Collins yesterday or today, and it has now been snowing for 15 straight hours.

We had a similar event here (Nashville) last week. Not as severe as what you describe, but the same sort of thing none the less. I made a remark to my wife “and they can forecast our climate 100 years in advance [wink]” .. she laughed …
Well, there was snow in the air all day (I’m in Gallatin, 20 miles or so from Nashville, in exile from the hurly-burly); but this area sees little snow (it doesn’t seem to like snow unless it’s too warm for it to stick), almost never gets any snow accumulation on the grass, much less the roads, and as with this latest “similar event”, rarely indeed in the daytime. So it’s exciting–to our memories of real snow we’ve seen living in other regions, like Colorado–but (as the kid in us would say) pretty useless, at least in town.
