   According to Anthony Watts, that Arctic buoy had drifted some 300 miles from the pole.

     It is the same one. I make a habit of watching it. I’ve been doing so for years. Each year they put a camera up near the pole in April, and it drifts down towards Fram Strait by the time the “midnight sun” sets in September. Although the view is a bit distorted by a sort of fish-eye lens, I’d rather trust my lying eyes. You can see it yourself at http://psc.apl.washington.edu/northpole/index.html

   The lifeguard needs to keep his eye out for swimmers, surfers, sunbathers and scuba divers who might be in peril. Hopefully, he won’t get too distracted distracted by all the bikini clad beauties!
