The dirty little secret is that there has been a large increase in the amount of older, thicker ice in the Arctic over the last four years, and that very little of it melted this summer.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Polar bear cannibalism and sea ice, the spring of 1976:
From a report by biologist Jack Lentfer to the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group’s 6th meeting: “Sea ice was heavier than usual and heavy ice extended further south than usual in 1975 and 1976. This may have caused a movement of ringed seals.. and a similar movement of some bears.. The first instance of predation by an adult bear, a male, on cubs was noted. Both cubs in a litter were nearly completely consumed on 13 April 1976.”
From the linked blog post: The most important point of this story, in my opinion, is not the cannibalism but the ice conditions: the fact that the spring ice in eastern Alaska (eastern portion of the “Southern Beaufort”) were so heavy in 1975 and 1976 that many polar bears and ringed seals were noticed to have moved west and south (into the Chukchi and Bering Seas).
My thoughts: Clearly the late ’70s witnessed the culmination of a great surge in Arctic ice. And I thought Polar Bears liked ice. Yet apparently too much ice causes the cuddly creatures to eat themselves, though it seems nothing can stop them from eating each other all the time: revolting results of a google images “polar bear caibalism” search.
Surely it’s not uncommon for carnivores to eat young fathered by a different male. I’m sure I’ve seen stuff by Attenborough showing lions taking over a pride and killing the young. It’s natures way (raw in tooth and claw) of ensuring the genes of the fittest survive.
Ben, I missed that episode of lions eating their own. Or of cats eating cats.
Or of dogs eating dog. And there’s no reliable evidence that other bears, i.e. black or brown, eat themselves. But look at my link on google images for Polar Bear cannibalism and see the obvious evidence on the blood thirsty Polar Bears. My point is that not only are Polar Bear populations exploding, they’re not in any way the cuddly teddy bears the leftists make them out to be.
I have witnessed a mother cat eating her own, and I believe it was because she knew she could not feed them. She ate only their still soft heads. It is called ‘filial infanticide’.
Male lions and bears often kill the offspring of other males, so the female will come into estrous so he can spread his genes.
