1932 Shock News : Melting Polar Ice Caps To Drown The Planet

Note the comment—and I think it is quite true–the last ice age is only half over, we have been warming for thousands of years.
Steve,
Any previous melting of Arctic or warmth in NH is only regional.
Unlike our current warming which occurs more in the Arctic and NH. This is clearly
global regional cooling. Plus, there was a fire somewhere on the planet.
I thought scientists, even in 1932, knew that melting sea ice does not increase sea level. So when all the ice at the two poles melts…..
Exactly oeman…put ice in a glass and fill it to the brim with water. As the ice melts, does it over fill? dah…..simple. Seems this fear tactic re: global warming started a long time ago. Nothing new under the sun.
So the NYT thought oceans covered the Rockies? I guess NYT history of hiring Earth Sciences experts explains James Gorman.
Even the great Professor Feynman did not know about continental drift, plate tectonics, the various plates making up the earths crust, and how the plates move in relation to each other. In his Physics notes, that Cal Tech available on line, Vol I, Chapter 51 Prof Feynman discuss waves in solids and states: …A very interesting example of sound waves in a solid, both longitudinal and transverse, are the waves that are
in the solid earth. Who makes the noises we do not know, but inside the earth, from time to time, there are earthquakes—some rock slides past some other rock….
Today we know it is continental drift taking place.
Many geologists, both Christian and non, have known for centuries that the ‘great flood’ was not a global occurrence that placed sea shells on top of high mountain ranges. The debate raged back and forth, but like the myth that everyone believed the Earth was flat until Galileo came along, there was no consensus. It was fundamentalists who kept pushing the idea of a global flood. Continental Drift/Plate Techtonovs has nothing to do with the fact that people knew the shells were not deposited at high elevations.
“Techtonovs” = iPhart. Should read ‘Tectonics’
Continental Drift was only accepted science in the late 1960s. At that stage – the 1930s – they believed in the scrunched apple theory. See books by Prof Percival Lowell.
In 1908 Prof Percival Lowell brought out his book ‘Mars as Abode of Life’. On page 15 of this book, the good professor explains how planets are formed and use a picture of a shriveled to explain how mountains are formed on planets.
In the same year, following the publication of this book, the New York Times had a front-page declaring ‘Life on Mars’.
North Pole is sea ice, South is not.
Those fossils got up in the Rockies by riding the land up as it folded, of course, not by inundation of the mountain peaks.
Scientific fact #1: When water freezes it expands.
Scientific fact #2: What we see above water is only the “tip of the iceberg” In short, there is a lot more iceberg underwater than there is above, and….
Scientific fact #3: Objects sitting in water displace that volume of water.
So, we can assume that when the frozen water that is underwater melts, it will actually take LESS room than the ice takes, hence a sea level DROP. If we suppose that that the ice above water is approximately about the same as the amount of expansion, then that would yield a sea level rise of ZERO. If it happens to be a bit more than the expansion, the rise would be negligible.
How much are the scientist being paid to put out this garbage. It looks like we are going into a ice age instead!!!!
