2.4 billion Hiroshima bombs is “not much” – but 0.0001 mole fraction CO2 is catastrophic.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

There was a lewandowsky paper that tested what people would happen on a graph. Some were told it was economics others that it was global temperature. What the figures shows is that only those sceptical of global warming WERE NOT influenced by what they were told the graph showed.
However Lewandowsky reported this as “people changed their views” and “sceptics were the most different from everyone else”. What this shows me is that sceptics are people who can read a graph and really know what it means, whilst alarmists are those who read a graph and see what they want it to say.
That’s why they are attracted to the climate change cause. They can see patterns in random weather events. More rational people don’t assume those random patterns mean anything.
Key word there is rational. There is little hope for those who do not think. They believe and thus must label the heretics (or skeptics) as “deniers”….
And the climate charlatans keep pouring fake data (fuel) and weather events onto the fire of so-called proof….
Actually the Warmist movement is following the well-paved pathways of the Temperence movement. I guess there has to be some movement or another for idiots of every generation to follow.
http://listverse.com/2014/01/05/10-outrageous-claims-made-by-the-temperance-movement/
The bottom entry (#1) was mandatory alcohol education in schools.
From article: All of these things were taught in schools as scientific fact. Educators like Mary Hunt crusaded to get temperance views and “science” into the curricula of the public schools—and in many cases, they succeeded. Hunt was the driving force behind the Scientific Temperance Instruction Movement, and although they met resistance at first, the WTCU made sure that their members and supporters were in key roles within the education system.
By 1900, nearly every state had added an anti-alcohol class to their schedules. Most used one or more of the 30-odd approved textbooks, given the stamp of approval by Mary Hunt herself. Congress eventually passed legislation making inclusion of anti-alcohol teachings and textbooks mandatory in schools across the country. On the other side of the fence was the Committee of Fifty, a group of scientists that closely examined the claims in the approved textbooks and found them seriously lacking (link: http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/Controversies/1091124904_4.html#.UsC0vvubiZR for hard, scientific facts.

Ah! A fellow history Jedi. The force is strong in this one.
But they don’t know they are stupid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G_zSos8w_I
Aside from “Dunning-Kruger Syndrome” to which Mr Cleese refers, i.e., so stupid you cannot realize how stupid you really are, there’s also Rothbard’s Law, which says that people who are weak in a particular area of their field of study will end up specializing in it; he originally related it to economics, but there is nothing inherent in that field alone which should limit the application of the law solely to it– though it could be argued that economics as a field may inordinately attract the D-KS crowd
So, faulty self-assessment as to one’s own abilities within one’s own profession may be higher in certain professions than in others, as a meta-Rothbard’s of sorts follows on from D-KS; whoever is too stupid to realize what their strengths and weaknesses are overall may end up choosing a profession within which they may then be attracted to a speciality even more particularly unsuited to their talent or lack thereof.
If you watch the entire video, he is taking a swipe at conservatives and anyone who watches Fox News. But, I like this edited version.
Funny you left out my other replies. I’ll help you:
it takes about 100 Little Boys to heat 1km^3 of water by 1C. Water is MASSIVE energy sink
spreading 2.4 billion Little Boy’s over all oceans would mean ~7 bombs per km^2
And your point is what?
Point is people massively overestimate the energy output of nukes. It takes ~275 Little Boys to heat up one cubic mile of water by just one degree. Ocean contains roughly 320 million cubic miles.
If ALL that energy from 2.4 billion nukes would end up in oceans it would heat up by less than 0.3 degrees
Kalle, You’re confronting the wrong person. Steve G. isn’t the one that created a Hiroshima bomb widget to frighten casual viewers about the climate. Your warmist buddies did.
In other words, marketing hype and likely outside the range of measurement error.
You should get in contact with the people claiming this, and tell them to stop spreading mindless alarmism.
Hansen was not talking exclusively about water, check your talking points at the door.
“Our climate is absorbing a lot of heat. When scientists add up all of the heat warming the oceans, land, and atmosphere and melting the ice, they find our climate is accumulating 4 Hiroshima atomic bombs worth of heat every second.”
Nice try.
Nuke-analogy was just used to talk about the insane amounts of energy at play. If one says “equivalent to energy of 2.4 billion Little Boys” would that give you better sense of scales than “1.5*10^23 joules”?
Looking here and on twitter it’s clear that the author of the claim massively understood science literacy of people.
Nuke analogy intended to deceive and spread alarmism. Most likely outside the range of measurement error.
“Looking here and on twitter it’s clear that the author of the claim massively understood science literacy of people.”
I think you scored on your own goal! 😆
“Nuke analogy intended to deceive and spread alarmism. Most likely outside the range of measurement error.”
Wait, weren’t you supposed to be some sort of scientist? If you actually were one you’d know how accurate measurements we can do on temperature and you’d know it’s far from outside the error limit.
@gator69, feel free to point out any errors you find in any of my sayings. I’m always appreciative in constructive criticism. Thanks 🙂
Most of the ocean has no temperature sensors, Homer.
“@gator69, feel free to point out any errors you find in any of my sayings. I’m always appreciative in constructive criticism.”
Unless that criticism is leveled at an alarmist grantologist.
You are welcome. 😉
“Most of the ocean has no temperature sensors, Homer”
Ever heard that satellites can measure deep ocean temperature? Guess not.
Oh really? Link to that where satellites can measure temperature of ocean deep?
Kalle, I have been following matters climate since Gore released his screed and I have never heard of such satellite capabilities. I am genuinely intrigued. Could you please point us to some info on this subject.
Is it an “insane amounts of energy,” or is it “not much ?”
And there I was thinking that you just had a penchant for the energy of “little boys” … 😉
Go stand next to Little Boy bomb and see how weak it is.
I don’t understand;
When they wanted to scare us it was a really big number, but now it is really small.
Which is it/
I had to unfriend a good friend on facebook because he linked to this, talking about why we should all hate the big oil companies, thereby proving himself to be a hypocritical idiot who fills his car with gas, uses electricity, heats his house and/or uses public buildings heated by fuel oil, coal, gas, yet hates the good people who work for oil/coal companies and work their asses off to bring that fuel to his sorry ungrateful a–.
http://www.treehugger.com/environmental-policy/what-wastes-enough-energy-power-25-million-cars-and-can-be-seen-space.html
We need to choose our friends wisely, and unfriend all idiots daily.
Morgan, your final line is brilliant— worthy of Poor Richard’s Almanac. It should be carved in marble over the entrance to Facebook…if that were possible. Thanks for giving us a real word to live by! And as for the fool who claimed that 2.4 hiroshima bombs was “tiny” yet somehow deserving of its own scary widget—let him jump in the boiling waters of the Arctic.
Make that 2.4 Billion…sorry…

I had “liked” a page on Facebook called “Australians Demand Unbiased Reporting In The Media”, thinking that they would post links to unbiased articles.
When they posted a link to a GetUp article saying that “this shows climate change is very, very real”, relating to sea-level projections (i.e. they are a theory, and are not real at all), I “unliked” their page with a parting gesture: “Ironic that this page should post a link an ultra-biased GetUp article”, and they responded that they would not miss me. As if I would miss them?
I’m going to keep track of how many likes they are able to collect. Given the lack of quality of their posts, I expect it won’t be many. Perhaps I’ll start my own page called “Incredibly stupid and ironic pages that no-one should like”
Just like the aptly named “Skeptical Science” blog, which also has a page on Facebook.
Kalle needs to take his beef to the alarmists that started using the Hiroshima bomb scale as applied to the climate. Jimmie Hansen was among the first to refer to Hiroshima bombs as a measurement of “excess” energy. Warmists always seem to get cause and effect reversed.
I don’t think the 10’s of thousands of people who were in Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the time would say the A bomb was “not much” I think Kalle would think different if one was dropped in his town or city.
Global Warming is being taught as truth in the Public Schools. Indoctrinate when they are young and they will not stray when they are older. Liberals will never back down from AGW because they believe at some point most people will be believers. They Damn the ethics of engineering and science. It’s downright sickening.
This is the same strategy that Progressives used to pass Prohibition. History is simply repeating itself, only this time we have the Internet.
Meanwhile, the Al Gore Effect has been in action in Antarctica. The moment the warmist scientists were evacuated from the Academik Shokalskiy, the ice started to dissipate and the ship is now motoring northward.

Seriously, if you were a climate scientist, you would want to avoid casinos. Bad karma follows these clowns like flies follow buzzards.
