Speaking of ‘tipping points’, I reckon the unfortunate Chris Turkey may well have precipitated one.
He has single-handedly been responsible for the worst piece of bad CAGW PR since Climategate blew COP 15 at Copenhagen clear out of the water.
That is exactly what the Germans used to do when our Post sponsored a volksmarch, and served cold beer. They would point to the beer and then at the grill, while making faces an rolling their eyes. 😆
We always had German beer served by well endowed German maidens carrying huge trays of Mast mugs of the stuff. The food at our fest at Flint Kasserne in Bad Tolz was German also complete with ham hocs and chickens on the rotisserie and an Umpha band in Lederhosen and the Germans and all of us loved it.
I still have my old Dinkelacker mugs and glasses on display in my roadhouse. I hear it is now available again stateside. Great beer. Great memories.
To this day since my time in Germany about only domestic brews I drink are from Micros though I do like some of Sam Adams stuff. I drink more imports than domestic and the only time I look at the mass produced American beers is when there is nothing else available. I couldn’t even think about touching a big name domestic for several years after I got back.
But in my job I have hauled some cans and lids for Miller products to their breweries at times.
Obviously if the beer freezes, it does not contain enough anti-freeze. More alcohol!! Forget the weak stuff!!
24 proof liquor freezes at -6.7°C (20°F)
64 proof liquor freezes at -23.33°C (-10°F)
84 proof liquor freezes at -34.44°C (-30°F)
So, to be on the safe side, better take a bottle of vodka, tequila, whiskey or rum.
The malt sugars in a quality beer will also depress the freezing point several degrees as well.
Thus, those wimpy lite beers will freeze early and freeze hard.
Everclear at about 92 proof should be safe…
Plus it is flammable, an added bonus in survival scenarios.
Obviously you should drink good beer and protect it from the environment. Or, not let it sit around long enough to freeze.
