   I never liked Bush Senior. He lied when he said “Read my lips, no new taxes.” He lost because of it and rightly so. But you had to look through scores of speeches to find the lie. You would have to perform a similar search of Obama’s speeches to find something that is true!

     Just a nitpick. And it really pains me to stick up for Bush 41 ( yes, a bona fide WWII war hero, but a stinking “moderate” taxpayer-sucking bureaucrat ever since, including being the Ford/Rockeffeller/McCain/Romney/Christie of the Reagan era ).

     Anyway, a lie can only occur *after* the fact, because it is a deliberate mis-statement of an *existing* fact. “No New Taxes” was a promise, a promise that was never going to be kept unless the electorate woke up and elected a non-liberal House which wouldn’t happen for six more years. Pointing your finger and saying “I did not have sex …” was however an actual lie. They are not the same thing, a lie is far worse as it violates the very core basis of what our fragile “honor system” relies upon.

     People should be upset at Bush 41 for something else entirely, something rarely mentioned. Lots of folks blame his loss to Clinton on several things including Perot and Buchanan. But even though Bush 41 was listed on the ballot in 1992 he did not really show up for that election. His 4 years as President went to his head and he chose the more civilized approach of being “Presidential”, a throwback to the 19th century method of running for President. Meanwhile the competition ate him alive parroting that “No New Taxes” broken promise ( chutzpah! ) and even a successful Gulf War could not help him in the end.

     His exact crime was discarding the 1988 pitbull strategy where he demolished the “liberal” Dukakis using that word constantly and killing him in commercials. But then in 1992 I don’t think he ever even uttered the word “liberal” a single time. In short, he had no more intention of winning that election than he had for keeping the taxes promise. That was his crime and it gave us Fat Bastard Bill Clinton.
