Wikipedia says that UHI raises recent Illinois city temperatures by 2 degrees.

NOAA adjusts older temperatures downwards by almost two degrees, so that they can double count UHI and create a 100% fraudulent US temperature trend – which Obama can quote in his SOTU address.
Wouldn’t that be a 200% fraudulent trend? 🙂

Does NOAA publish a clear policy statement on how they handle UHI adjustments or do they pass it off to some “peer reviewed” academic paper? Does anyone have a URL where they state their reasoning and how they apply the adjustments?
Phil Jones did a study once with some Chinese data (that have mysteriously gone missing) that showed “conclusively” that the Urban Heat Island effect is just no big deal.

The dirty secret with that paper though is that the Chinese repeatedly moved the thermometers to keep them out of the rapidly expanding urban areas.

To make things easier for them in the future, NASA and the climate nerds should make just make one blanket prediction now: “whatever happens it because of mann made global warming, or, if not by that, by man made climate change.” So if in 2020 after this “pause” has turned into an obvious decline that they just can’t hide, and their “models” are looking worse than pasted together plastic airplanes, they can say that “this is the weirdness of global warming, it’s freezing our balls off. Cut CO2, by 80% now! Stop with the pipeline, or it will be game over for the climate!!”
Dear Mr. Goddard, I greatly enjoy your posts giving historical context to much of the science “news” and in that vein I’m wondering if you know of a repository for examples of authorities from the 70s, 80, and early 90s, to make wildly false predictions and toxic prescriptions re: fossil fuels. E.g., Predictions of massive increase in climate-related deaths. Prescriptions for less energy use, including less electricity use. Climate model predictions. Predictions of running out of fossil fuels, other resources. Claims of unanimous scientific consensus on catastrophic climate change. Claims of renewables’ (including biofuels) being on the verge of economic success. Predictions of specific resource or climate-related disasters. Predictions of out-of-control pollution.
Fascists rewrite history. Climate Fascists – Gaiamunists; GaiaMarxists; Gaiaquackitsts will do the same. The world has cooled since 1880 and there are local/variable conditions to ‘weather’, this is called thermodynamics making a ‘global temp mean’ a mockery. Thermodynamics is a big word that the Warmtards can’t spell.
I remember perhaps a decade ago this subject came up at Climate Audit. NOAA, around that time, began to apply TOB adjustments to their already homogenized adjustments. Someone at Climate Audit noticed that all of a sudden the 1930s were “cooled” and the 1990s were “warmed”. I think it was at that time that someone called those adjustments Hockey Sticks by other means. Both the homogeneity and TOB adjustments are statistical constructs and not “real” warming or cooling. It was also at this time that a new version of GISS’s temp data set was published, and bingo! the 1930s were cooled and the 1990s were warmed.
The Alarmists will do anything to get their way. As Disreali once quipped, “There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.”
NOAA will do whatever their master demands.
