Smithsonian Takes Stupid To A New Level

Museums should probably stick to reporting about the past climate change, and stay out of the prophesy business.

No doubt this was caused by Fred Flintstone’s SUV.

Five years ago, the Smithsonian still had their 1970’s global cooling exhibit on display

I have been a member of the Smithsonian for many years, and always enjoyed their monthly magazine, but I will not be renewing my membership this year. Bill McKibben is now a regular contributor, and the ‘science’ is going to pot.

    • inMAGICn says:

They lost me years ago over their insulting Enola Gay exhibit where we nasty Americans dared end the war against lovable Japanese war-lords fighting for “their unique way of life.”

  2. emsnews says:

Note that the museum talks about THE Ice Age which is a lie.

There have been repeated ice ages and we are on the verge of yet another one, they come like clockwork, over and over again. It is the new normal.

  3. That reminds me very much of the old Far Side where the caveman is squinting through his new, prototype, 8-foot-tall “microscope” to declare,

    It’s a mammoth.

Who among us, back then, thought that that would ever be more reasonable than what we’d be offered in the name of “science” in the future?

George Orwell saw this coming in 1946 and tried to warn us a new tyrannical government was coming.

Here is a brief summary of the little-known events in Aug-Sept 1945 – based on my research career and those of Sir Fred Hoyle (1915-2001) and Dr. Paul Kazou Kuroda (1917-2001) – that gave Joseph Stalin the power to change the course of world history:

    1. Unreported CHAOS and FEAR of nuclear annihilation in Aug-Sept 1945,

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10640850/CHAOS_and_FEAR_August_1945.pdf

    2. Preceded formation of the United Nations on 24 Oct 1945.

    3. Sir Fred Hoyle changed the internal composition of the Sun and George Orwell started writing his warning to the public in 1946: “Nineteen Eighty-Four”.

    4. And now we see that “The second most terrifying thing about George Orwell’s “1984” is the supposition that it is possible to destroy humanity without destroying humankind.”

    5. Or as Edmund Burke concluded, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

  5. The Smithsonian will be under a glacier in 1000 years or less.

I bet that Irish elk was a mean son of a bitch and could probably drink the other animals under the table.

Do they still have their “Global Cooling” display up?

      • Gary H says:

That’s quite the graphic in your link there. There are two very odd (unexpected) aspects in the picture. 126,000 (looking at the NEEM core records: http://blogs.agu.org/wildwildscience/files/2013/01/vostok_back_to_eemian.jpg) years ago we were just coming out of the Eemian warm period (which was about 3C warmer than today).

One might question that the great glacier sheets would have expanded so far into North America while temperatures were still slightly warmer than they are today (look at the temp plot). Then, for the next 110,000 years, or so, the cold would not only continue; but would advance until it was 9 or 10C. colder than today.

The second odd item on the graphic is that they depict that even as the ice sheet is covering the future northerly and north-eastern tier of states, inc. NY and Washington DC the Arctic ocean is depicted as being almost entirely ice free.

        Watts up with that?

      • Gary H says:

        Also, this ludicrous statement:

“It took just a small increase in sunshine and a gradual, 70-ppm rise in CO2 to melt the great ice sheets that once covered Eurasia and America.”

        • Gail Combs says:

Never mentioning the 70-ppm rise in CO2 came 800 years AFTER the increase in temperature or that the switch from the Wisconsin Ice age to the Holocene happened in THREE YEARS!
Richard B. Alley of the U.Penn. was elected to the National Academy of Sciences, chaired the National Research Council on Abrupt Climate Change for well over a decade and in 1999 was invited to testify about climate change by Vice President Al Gore.
In his book, The Two-Mile Time Machine: Ice Cores, Abrupt Climate Change, and Our Future Richard Alley, one of the world’s leading climate researchers, tells the fascinating history of global climate changes as revealed by reading the annual rings of ice from cores drilled in Greenland. In the 1990s he and his colleagues made headlines with the discovery that the last ice age came to an abrupt end over a period of only three years…. (wwwDOT)amazon.com/Two-Mile-Time-Machine-Abrupt-Climate/dp/0691102961

Also in 2002, the NAS (Alley chair) published a book “Abrupt Climate Change:

. From the opening paragraph in the executive summary:

“Recent scientific evidence shows that major and widespread climate changes have occurred with startling speed. For example, roughly half the north Atlantic warming since the last ice age was achieved in only a decade, and it was accompanied by significant climatic changes across most of the globe. Similar events, including local warmings as large as 16°C, occurred repeatedly during the slide into and climb out of the last ice age.”
          http://www.nap.edu/openbook.php?isbn=0309074347

So you have the ocean (North Atlantic) warming in a decade and it taking CO2 ~ 800 years to outgas from the warmer water.

Do these idiots think CO2 has a time machine?

      • Bob Knows says:

From that Smithsonian BS, “Why did the ice leave after such a long reign? The answer is complicated and routed in an understanding of how the Earth’s oceans, atmosphere and land surfaces interact both with each other and with forces far beyond the edge of the planet.”

Translation: “Its complicated, but its not caused by the sun so the sun isn’t responsible for global warming or cooling. Its all complicated ocean currents and Carbon Dioxide caused by humans. Unless you believe uncle Obama and stop using fuel and send all your money, you are all going to die from either heat or cold” .

  8. Dave N says:

Fred and his ilk exhaled too much CO2 whilst propelling their vehicles around

  9. Bob Knows says:

And they wonder why nobody believes medical “science” when they tell us to get flu shots or that ebola is not to worry about. How many liars can they parade out front before lies become honesty?

  10. Climatism says:

‘..But the period 1890-1945 A.D. was abnormally warm..’

Not according to Gavin et al at space HQ.

  11. R2Dtoo says:

Does anyone know the funding sources for the Smithsonian? Do I assume they are part of the US federal gov? Unionized staff? Do they farm out their displays etc. A dumb Canuck wants to know.

    • gator69 says:

“Budget—The Smithsonian’s federal appropriation for fiscal year 2013 (Oct. 1, 2012–Sept. 30, 2013) is $775 million. The Institution is about 65 percent federally funded. In addition, the Smithsonian has trust funds, which include both contributions from private sources (corporations, foundations and individuals) and revenues from Smithsonian Enterprises (stores, restaurants, IMAX theaters, gift catalog, etc.).”

      http://newsdesk.si.edu/mobile/factsheets?id=1130

      • Gail Combs says:

Maybe we need to start a petition to have the Smithsonian and any other propaganda spewing museum DEFUNDED. That is one way to help balance the budget.

Then include all the universities and colleges.

A billion here, a billion there and all of a sudden you have a balanced budget!
