If The Facts Don’t Fit The Theory, Change The Facts

Einstein joked :

If the facts don’t fit the theory, change the facts.

He was mocking fake scientists who tamper with data, like the ones in the US government which create fake temperature graphs.

The White House is engaged in a big push to create an imaginary “climate legacy” for the narcissistic in chief. Actual temperatures provide no support for the agenda, so NCDC simply makes up fake data. They show US temperatures for October as 4th warmest since 1895

ScreenHunter_4787 Nov. 23 10.36

Their own thermometer data shows nothing of the sort. October temperatures in the US haven’t warmed since 1895, and this past October was unremarkable.  The animation below alternates between NCDC measured and reported temperatures. Note how they bumped October 2014 up a full degree.

NCDCvsHCNOctober

Do they actually believe that all of their observers were reading temperatures a degree too low in October 2014? That isn’t even remotely credible. Te next graph shows the adjustments that are being made. The warming trend is 100% fabricated

ScreenHunter_4786 Nov. 23 10.35

We are witnessing the biggest scientific scam in history.

Thanks for your work in pointing this out.

    • Ok, this one makes me very sad…

The Fraud and deceit are so pervasive in this “Science”… yet.. they still get funded .. nobody confronts them directly… these folks hold a LOT of power… Hell, Africa just got a billion dollars to offset/fight “Climate Change” which is very. very minimal or doesn’t exist… that money will simply go down a wastehole.. add it to America’s tab…

Anyway,… out in CA a 17 cent per gallon tax will soon be enacted on Gas under the guise of offsetting Global Warming… the EPA is enacting rules all the time… which act as taxes and restrict freedom based on Global Warming Mann-Made CO2 Theory..

Only a Lawsuit can get attention here and possibly stop this FRAUD.. we are all Plaintiffs to this case.. all financially damages based on the LIes of this “Science”…

      • Olaf Koenders says:

It craps me out too. I believe they feel they’re getting away with it to such a degree (pun intended) that they’ll ramp up the fraud until they go too far and their charts get adjusted to a vertical line. That’s when everyone will ask the hard questions.

  2. Andrew S says:

If you’re cold, just make the past colder so you can “feel” all warm and fuzzy inside. 😉

  3. emsnews says:

What is most annoying was this last summer was COLD for summer. We had virtually no heat waves. The the sun spot activity kicked up again briefly and late September to early October was warmer than any time during the entire summer!

And even so, it was never ‘hottest ever’.

  4. Don B says:

An article in today’s NY Times could stand some fact-checking as well; it is about Glacier National Park.

“Mountain snowpacks are shrinking. In recent decades, rising winter temperatures have increasingly changed snows to rain.” At those latitudes, at mountain elevations, I doubt that is true.

“In Glacier National Park, the number of days above 90 degrees has tripled since early last century, and the summertime span in which such hot days occur has almost doubled, to include all of July and most of August.” Is that really true?

    And there is more.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/23/us/climate-change-threatens-to-strip-the-identity-of-glacier-national-park.html

    • The NY Times stopped fact-checking a few hundred EPA payola payments ago.

      • Gail Combs says:

The New York Times stopped fact checking in the 1920’s and they still publish propaganda. In 2005 they made it perfectly clear they had no problem with the killing of millions of people and whitewashing it.

Ukrainians Protest Walter Duranty’s Bloody New York Times Pulitzer
Battling chilly temps and uncooperative winds, a Ukrainian group assembled outside New York Times headquarters in Manhattan Friday to protest the 1932 Pulitzer Prize awarded to Times reporter Walter Duranty for his pro-Stalin coverage of Russia. The Ukrainian famine of 1932-33 (Ukrainians call it the Holodomor) was engineered by Russian dictator Josef Stalin — and whitewashed from Duranty’s reporting for the Times. Duranty, who covered the country for the Times from 1922 to 1941, ignored Stalin’s atrocities, including the famine that killed seven to ten million Ukrainians. Duranty, who is “credited” for coining the phrase (referring to Stalin’s purges) “You can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs,” said of the famine accusations, which were reported at the time by left-wing journalists like Malcolm Muggeridge: “Any report of a famine in Russia today is an exaggeration or malignant propaganda.”Another choice quote from Duranty: “Stalin is giving the Russian people-the Russian masses, not Westernized landlords, industrialists, bankers, and intellectuals, but Russia’s 150,000,000 peasants and workers-what they really want, namely joint effort, communal effort.'”…..

the Times has never disowned the award, and two years ago the Pulitzer Prize committee decided not to revoke Duranty’s prize. Relieved Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr., while regretting Duranty’s reporting, argued that giving back the prize would itself evoke the “Stalinist practice to airbrush purged figures out of official records and histories.” Mark Von Hagen, the paper’s own hired historian, suggested the “airbrushing” comparison was irresponsible: “Those targeted for ‘airbrushing’ were already murdered, languishing in the gulag or forced into exile after having been falsely accused of espionage, treason, sabotage and other ‘crimes.’….Revoking Mr. Duranty’s prize is another matter altogether. He was never prosecuted for any crimes. His articles remain available in the archives of The New York Times, and his books on the shelves of major libraries. Airbrushing was intended to suppress the truth about what was happening under Stalin. The aim of revoking Walter Duranty’s prize is the opposite: to bring greater awareness of the potential long-term damage that his reporting did for our understanding of the Soviet Union…..

      http://cdiac.ornl.gov/cgi-bin/broker?_PROGRAM=prog.climsite_monthly.sas&_SERVICE=default&id=244558&_DEBUG=0

I took a quick look and my gut feel is the data does not support the times assertions but my gut feel proves nothing. I post the above so that others can try to look into this for themselves, or maybe Tony might want to debunk the times article.

It allows you to see “Number of Record High Tmax’s and Record Low Tmin’s per Decade”

While fairly crude one can still glean some suggestive info.
For example, in the decade starting at 2001, there were 46 record high Tmax’s recorded at KALISPELL GLACIER PK INTL ARP -, MT (244558)

But at least four other decades had MORE record high Tmax’s
      1931 – 52, 1961 – 56, 1971 – 59, 1981 – 54.
      These exceeded 2001 decade by 6, 10, 13, and 8 respectively.

And in the decade starting at 2001, there were 56 record low Tmin’s recorded there.
And only two other decades had more Tmin’s recorded
      1961 – 64, 1991 – 61.
These exceeded 2001 decade by 8 and 5 respectively.

To me the fact that there were so many (4) decades which had MORE record highs recorded, and fewer decades (2) which had more record lows (and those exceeded by fewer counts generally) to me indicates that things are NOT warming up there as the new york times article might like us to believe.

The “ace in the hole” for the temp-adjusters is the arctic. Essentially no data and lots of surface area, so a little creative “homogenizing” and “extrapolating” from UHI-warmed locales like Point Barrow, and the entire Arctic begins to look like a HOT BLOB on the top of the Earth (in terms of anomalies only – in real degrees, it’s still FRIKKEN COLD up there).

The GHCN/NCDC gang has had decades to perfect the “adjustment 3-card Monte” scam.

As Stephen McIntyre has said on many occasions, you have to pay special attention to the pea under the shell.

  14. David Jay says:

Why is the breakpoint always 1961??? Am I the only one who finds this bizarre?

This rotation (cooling pre-, warming post-) about 1961 has been visible since the first GIF animation that was put up on WUWT (perhaps, what, 7-8 years ago now?).

If NCDC recalculates past temperatures every month as they claim and as Mosh says is acceptable practice – and is also done at BEST, etc.(not agreeing, just observing) then why is the NCDC rotation point static at 1961. It would seem that it should move later in time as the length of the overall time series grows.

I propose that 1961 is “The Year the Temp Stood Still” (apologies the 1951 movie – a much better SF flick than the remake).

    • John Daly did a gif animation over a decade ago. I posted my version on WUWT about six years ago,

      • David Jay says:

I joined the CAGW discussion about 7 years ago when I discovered “Climate Audit”, so yours (at WUWT) was the first one I saw.

So why doesn’t the inflection point move?

I think it would be great if you created a post entitled: “1961 – The Year the Temp Stood Still” and asked for comments about this phenomenon.

  15. emsnews says:

Their other most favorite year is 1978. That is when it was really, really cold so anything is ‘warm’ compared to it. Another stationary data point picked out for obvious reasons.

  16. UNVERIFIED CLAIMS IN ARTICLE = OPINION

True science requires critical thinking beyond graphs that are barely readable. The graphs go unverified with lack of specific numbers referenced in the text. Supporting years as reference points does not explain any numerical relationships to actual temperature.

There are no references to any works outside of this author’s article to support any claims made….no reports by any third parties, no reference to specific sources of statistical information.

Now don’t get me wrong, I too think that Global Warming ( now less alarmist “climate change” which should actually be more alarming if one does any research into the chemtrails phenomena) is indeed a systemic crisis invented by the oligarchy who run our institutions. HOWEVER, shoddy analysis( unverified claims really) buttressed by even shoddier graphs will not convince any critical thinkers who know how arguments are arranged.

Would enjoy seeing actual numbers and explanation of the meaning of those numbers in your follow up article.

    • Gail Combs says:

      Labels on the graphs:
NCDC = National Climatic Data Center (NOAA)

HCN or USHCN = The United States Historical Climatology Network

      NOAA
The U.S. Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) data are used to quantify national- and regional-scale temperature changes in the contiguous United States (CONUS). The USHCN is a designated subset of the NOAA Cooperative Observer Program (COOP) Network with sites selected according to their spatial coverage, record length, data completeness, and historical stability.

Steven is comparing NOAA’s adjusted temperature data for the USA that is fed to the MSM and the public to the raw data from the stations that NOAA says are the best. That is correctly placed (class 1) with no station moves and complete records.

      Climate Reference Network Rating Guide:

Class 1 (CRN1)- Flat and horizontal ground surrounded by a clear surface with a slope below 1/3 (<19deg). Grass/low vegetation ground cover 3 degrees.

Class 2 (CRN2) – Same as Class 1 with the following differences. Surrounding Vegetation 5deg.

Class 3 (CRN3) (error >=1C) – Same as Class 2, except no artificial heating sources within 10 meters.

Class 4 (CRN4) (error >= 2C) – Artificial heating sources = 5C) – Temperature sensor located next to/above an artificial heating source, such a building, roof top, parking lot, or concrete surface.”

“We don’t have to talk to them anymore about stuff that’s not true and this propaganda that’s a lie. We’re just going to run ‘em over. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do”

A little data manipulation is just a necessary evil.

    • So the state is working to regulate the air we breath? How long do you think before the industry starts bottling air and selling fresh air to us?

      • Gail Combs says:

        No!

The EPA has gone around Congress and is banning energy from wood stoves for heating to coal plants that provided 82% of the US electricity.

According to the EPA impact statement only “9.5 GW of electrical generating capacity would close as a result of its MACT and CSAPR rules.” But the EPA is way off base in their estimate.

The Institute for Energy Research has collected the announcements of coal plant closings that specifically cite the EPA rules as the reason for closure. Their updated list shows ‘72.7 GW of electrical generating capacity will now close’

To put 72 GW in perspective, that is enough electrical generation capacity to reliably power 44.7 million homes[3]—or every home in every state west of the Mississippi River, excluding Texas… shuttering over one-fifth of the U.S.’s coal-fired generating capacity.
        instituteforenergyresearch(dot)org/topics/policy/power-plant-closures/

A map of the closures shows most will be on the eastern seaboard of the USA and almost all will be east of the Mississippi River.
The older 2012 map shows this best:
        http://instituteforenergyresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/CoalRetirementsMap.png

Supposedly natural gas was to replace coal but the timing is very tight and the NIMBYs will not allow gas pipelines, the only way to insure a constant supply of fuel. (Coal can be stockpiled.)

This last point is interesting. Ask yourself why the US government would intentionally cause blackouts in eastern cities.
        …..

Think of the 1967 Detroit riots

Detroit – Blood that never dried
….Now the professional revolutionaries were taking over, the snipers…. Snipers quickly learned to stand back from the window when firing, making it very difficult for this young Guardsmen to pinpoint the telltale muzzle flash…..

In the space of one horrific week, Detroit had gone from being the Model City, a pennant of progressivism, to having the dubious distinction of hosting the most devastating civil disorder the country had ever seen. Between the Michigan National Guard, U.S. Army paratroopers, the Michigan State Police and the Detroit Police Department, it took some 17,000 men, armed to the teeth, to put down the Great Rebellion.

        Consider:
The 1977 New York City blackout lasting 25 hours resulted in looting and arson throughout the city. There were 1,037 fires, 550 police officers were injured and 4,500 looters were arrested.

Then consider the Zimmerman incident in Florida where the US Justice Department stirred the pot.
