Grist : Global Warming Causes Both Warm And Cold Winters

Last year, Grist blamed cold weather on global warming.

This year, they wanted to blame warm weather on global warming – until the “National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Association” told them they were wrong about both years.

I can remember during the 1960’s as a kid in DC, the temperature topped 70 on Chirstmas two consecutive years. The only difference then was that people just accepted it as unusual weather and unlike today, no one thought it was the end of the world. Or a rallying cry for global socialism.

Great point. Everything is a sign of the falling sky now. that way anything that happens justifies more $$$ to the scam artists.

Manipulation of the public is so obvious in the AGW campaign that the public is awakening to the possibility that federal research agencies manipulate the public on many other issues.

  4. omanuel says:

Watts et al. have a new paper showing the importance of site location for temperature measurements:

Will this help climate ‘scientists’ duck responsibility for misleading the public about global warming? If Cruz is elected President, they may be looking for an excuse.

    • cfgjd says:

Better climate data for 4% of the Earth’s surface is better than nothing I guess.

      • AndyG55 says:

Not worth responding to.. Just another meaningless ignorant rant form the cfool !

      • AndyG55 says:

Yet the surface temperature data is measured on far, far less area than that.

How many stations are there now reporting..?

Assume they are actually relevant for a 50km radius.. AS IF !!!

You do the calculations… and don’t run out of decimal places before you get a significant figure.

      • R Shearer says:

At least we have properly cited satellites circling earth.

      • sunsettommy says:

cfgjd, shows his usual limited thinking skills by suggesting that the rest of the world has similar quality data to brag about, but as you can see he has yet to post it.

      • Ted says:

        cfgjd-

Are you trying to imply that the data will be better if ALL the measurements are corrupt?

Can you explain, from anything close to a scientific standpoint, how using data known to be corrupt is superior to using proper data? Whether it’s every station in the world, just one, or anything in between, shouldn’t the measurements be made as accurately as possible?

    • AndyG55 says:

AW shows that even that 4% is very wrong……

meant to be the most accurate…

….. just imagine how bad the rest of the surface NON-data is.

  5. sam says:

Funny thing is I was just browsing thru youtube when i found this clip of the dik hartman show (or whatever his first name was).. and he was talking about how that scammer Michael Mann was now touting this idiotic theory that was the basis of the ‘Day After Tomorrow’ where Anthropogenic Global Warming culminates in a sudden onset of an Ice Age by ‘shutting down’ the AMO. NOW the scammer mm is latching on to this idiotic theory and saying it’s going to happen in the next few years.
SO in other words as we all know the weak solar activity, particularly the weak solar cycle 24 that we are now decending from it’s peak is causing global cooling and they KNOW that they can’t keep denying this forever so they are now actively pursuing that scam. Meanwhile the mainstream media is going to IGNOR the weak solar activity (as if variable solar activity doesn’t exist and instead we have 100% consistent solar activity) and we’re going to see every establishment politician, pundit, and ‘climate scientists’ start to tout this absolute non-sense.

SO the new line is A global warming ’causes’ severe and longer winters, BUT the planet ‘as a whole’ is ‘warming’ and they have their ‘adjusted’ charts to prove that that AGW is out there somewhere, like hiding deep in the ocean or it fell behind your sofa and when you reach for the remote that your dropped you’ll burn your hand.

    • Jason Calley says:

“it fell behind your sofa and when you reach for the remote that your dropped you’ll burn your hand.”

LOL! “The ocean ate the global warming” has to be the craziest idea ever put forward by the CAGW crowd! (Second place has to be “radiosonde thermometers can’t find the troposphere’s hot spot but we can infer it from wind sheer”.) I once posted a comment on a warmist site asking why they always quoted the supposed heat gain of the ocean in joules instead of in degrees. Their response for why they thought degrees were inappropriate? “There are always ways to make a big number look small!” If I may paraphrase that, “24 X 10^22 joules sounds much scarier than “less than a tenth of a degree”.”

  6. David A says:

WUWT had an article on a recent Mann paper suggesting this nonsense. He was early to see the cyclical nature of weather in the 1980s, and now is looking to take advantage of the likely downturn with the AMO, El Nino, and the very high blob, RRR induced SSTs, all likely to turn sharply down, perhaps exasperated by a quiet sun.

  7. OrganicFool says:

I have at least 200 things more important than global warming. As does everybody in the room.

Parents with Alzheimer, children with autism, bills to pay, shoveling my sidewalk in the warmest year ever. They must all be sacrificed to the global warming belief system. The Left used to care about people and the environment. Hilarious.

    • Gail Combs says:

The Left NEVER care about people! That is the propaganda they use to cover the wolf hiding under the sheepskin.

      http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads18/FabianWindow+wolf+in+sheeps+clothing1291137098.jpg
The Fabian Society Official Crest is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

George Bernard Shaw, co-founder of the Fabian Society called Lenin, the “greatest Fabian of them all”. He formulated and described the Fabian methodology: it used “methods of stealth, intrigue, subversion and the deception of never calling socialism by its right name.” The ideas are ancient and they are being implemented today. Through the Stained Glass Darkly, Beware Obama’s Fabian Window

It all depends on whether your view point is that the individual should serve the State or whether the State is there to protect the rights of the individual. It really is that simple.

If you believe the State should be served by the individual you have Sparta:

      Ancient Spartan Communism

“..Plutarch’s description is of interest because, waiving the question of its historical accuracy, it gives a very adequate definition of the ideal communistic state, as ideally imagined by countless later generations. In general, he says,

…he trained his fellow-citizens to have neither the wish nor the ability to live for themselves; but like bees they were to make themselves always integral parts of the whole community, clustering together about their leader, almost beside themselves with enthusiasm and noble ambition, and to belong wholly to their country.

…the Spartan state was probably unique in some respects in the record of political institutions. It is difficult to recall any other state in which the individual was so completely subordinated to the general ends of the community — and such subordination is, of course, of the very essence of socialism in its general sense, as distinguished from that species of socialism generally referred to as communism. From the day of his birth, when he might be not merely subordinated but suppressed for the good of the state, the young Spartan continued to be disposed of in one way or another until death opened up for him a way of escape. The common education, which began at the age of seven, was wholly designed to make good soldiers, to teach men to suffer uncomplainingly the extremes of heat and of cold, of hunger and of pain, and in each was implanted the conviction that he belonged not to himself, but to the state.

This type of attitude toward the treatment of fellow humans as nothing more than cattle (chattel) is reiterated centuries later by Fabian Co-founder George Bernard Shaw.

“We should find ourselves committed to killing a great many people whom we now leave living, and to leave living a great many people whom we at present kill. We should have to get rid of all ideas about capital punishment …

A part of eugenic politics would finally land us in an extensive use of the lethal chamber. A great many people would have to be put out of existence simply because it wastes other people’s time to look after them.”

Source: George Bernard Shaw, Lecture to the Eugenics Education Society, Reported in The Daily Express, March 4, 1910.
      …….

“The moment we face it frankly we are driven to the conclusion that the community has a right to put a price on the right to live in it … If people are fit to live, let them live under decent human conditions. If they are not fit to live, kill them in a decent human way. Is it any wonder that some of us are driven to prescribe the lethal chamber as the solution for the hard cases which are at present made the excuse for dragging all the other cases down to their level, and the only solution that will create a sense of full social responsibility in modern populations?”

Source: George Bernard Shaw, Prefaces (London: Constable and Co., 1934), p. 296.
      ……

“Under Socialism, you would not be allowed to be poor. You would be forcibly fed, clothed, lodged, taught, and employed whether you liked it or not. If it were discovered that you had not character and industry enough to be worth all this trouble, you might possibly be executed in a kindly manner; but whilst you were permitted to live, you would have to live well.”

George Bernard Shaw: The Intelligent Woman’s Guide to Socialism and Capitalism, 1928, pg. 470)

Sure sounds like slavery to me with no hope of being a free person.

And don’t for get the Eugenics part that is also embraced with enthusiasm by the Webbs,. the other co-founders of the Fabian Society.

We have all heard about how the Spartans of ancient Greece used to expose new-borns to see if they were fit for survival and training as a Spartan. Exposing a new-born to the elements for one day was a way of testing the babe to see if it was fit. If the baby survived one day exposed to the elements, the baby was fit to be a Spartan, if it did not survive, well, it was no good to be a Spartan. This is somewhat exaggerated. New borns would be examined for any physical impairment. If an impairment was found, then the baby would be left to the elements to die. But only if upon examination an impairment was found.

From the Groniad no less: Eugenics: the skeleton that rattles loudest in the left’s closet, Socialism’s one-time interest in eugenics is dismissed as an accident of history. But the truth is far more unpalatable
      …..

Then you have the type of government where the State is there to protect the rights of the individual. This is the government most of us on this board want as described by E.M. Smith.

The basic “issue” is that government is best when it is absolutely minimal, driven from the bottom up by locals and local to the people, and leaves most decisions to free actors in a free market (only acting to keep the market free and fair via preventing collusion, trusts, and monopoly).

The EU, and increasingly, the USA: Is tending to maximal government, driven from the top down from far far away ignoring the local people, and having most decisions made by paid actors of the government with no clue what The People want (or even worse, not caring at all what The People want) often acting to prevent market forces and pushing the agenda of those who collude, form trusts, and want monopoly power; frequently in a Government-Industry consortium oligopoly.

The original USA was set up to be of the first form. Local Sheriff was the head law enforcement officer in any local area. Counties had State Senators. States had Federal Senators. Everything from the bottom up. Over the decades, one bit at at time, power has shifted to central control. The end game is always collapse of Empire. Only the details change.

    • Ernest Bush says:

Environmentalists cared about the environment. Then they got pushed out of their organizations by leftists (progressives) in the 70’s. Progressives never cared about people. In the 70’s they talked about how to get rid of those in third world countries. The idea has grown to how do they get rid of all those lower classes except the ones they need to maintain an imperial lifestyle.” Now they openly call themselves progressives. which is a little frightening. They are now trying to replace Agenda 21 with Agenda 2030.

      • OrganicFool says:

2030 – about the time the next solar minimum is expected. This should help to bring about their wish of depopulation by destroying the grid and the ability for people to keep warm and cripple capitalism,

I ran into one of these people last night in the local pub after going to see Star Wars (big reunion and hugs all around). He was very adamant about being a communist, hated capitalism and corporations, loves Bernie Sanders. So I asked if he believed in the man-made global warming. Of course. My next question to these believers is always the same and so far not one I’ve met can answer it, just simply what is the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere. Watching their heads boil is usually the next thing. It’s kind of funny to watch! He just got angry and left like I was going to sell his children as slaves to some Arab sheikh. I enjoyed my Manhattan.

Arctic warming is changing the jet-stream. Blame recovery from the last glacial maximum, LOL.

  9. rah says:

I don’t know about GW doing it but El Ninos sure do for us in the US. The west is getting their winter right now while we in the east have been and will be enjoying spring like periods of mild temperatures. Come January we in the east get slammed by old man winter with temps running below normal most of the time right into early March. While the west they warm above normal and the skiers have a hay day with mild temps on the already great snow pack they have to work with.

None of that really concerns this trucker that much for the East central and North east US but drivers in the SE and South central US really don’t deal with it well. So what really concerns me is the space in the middle where old man winter and the warmer air battles it out. Can anyone say “ice storms”? It seems that we’re coming on a time when there is a high probability of nasty ice storms hitting western KY, TN, South east MO, and western AR. And possibly even places like Atlanta getting nailed. Because those are the places I drive frequently where drivers just don’t do winter driving very well.
