  1. Steve Case says:

I really don’t care if the Petermann Glacier is advancing retreating or doing cartwheels. Why? Because ice that calves into the sea today represents snow that fell decades ago and really says nothing about today’s climate. It just doesn’t matter.

    • Colorado Wellington says:

      Glaciers doing cartwheels?

Don’t give The Honorable Henry C. “Hank” Johnson Jr. any ideas.

  2. Steve Case says:

    From Eisenhower’s farewell address:

The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present — and is gravely to be regarded.

    This has happened.

  3. RAH says:

It occurs to me that no matter what a person observed at any single glacier that it is madness for then to base their opinion on what the worlds climate is doing based on that single set of observations. I mean really? How can someone, anyone, take such a claim seriously? It’s like saying: It rained here today thus it must be raining everywhere.

  4. Steve Parker says:

“Twice the size of Manhattan” sounds really big. But when you do the math*, it is roughly 1/250,000th of the total ice sheet, or about 2.5% of the total average surface mass gain annually. Not impressive.

*Number based on 50 sq miles and a thickness of 262 feet, the maximum reported at the tongue of the glacier per the internet.

Surprised Obama didn’t go visit it. He did go and visit the Exit Glacier a couple years back – announcing that it’s melting because of man-made climate change. No one told him – and the media didn’t fact check him – on the fact that according to a National Park study it had receded 5,584 feet between 1815 and 1950, and only 965 feet between 1950 and 1999 (end of the study period).

They (his science advisors – LOL) didn’t tell him about other great work by his government, either (we’re all familiar with this – why isn’t the media?)

Sorry that image is so large. I can’t determine when they’re going to import small, or large in size?

Hey Tony. Your post the other day: “More Trouble For Arctic Alarmists.” You may have already addressed this (you don’t miss much), but on DMI’s “Arctic’ home page, Here: http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/index.uk.php – there’s an “animation shows the ice extent in the middle of February for the period 2000-2009.” Shading shows the downward trend of thicker multi-year ice during the period. This is 2017 – wonder why they haven’t updated it for almost a decade? That’s probably a rhetorical question.

The take-away these folks come to from this study is what we come to expect – unbelievable. “Current Melting Of Greenland’s Ice Mimicks 1920s-1940s Event” – here: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/12/071210094332.htm

The Helheim Glacier is one studied. Attached is a graphic I grabbed from some study a few years back. Looking at Google Earth images of the glacier (looks like the terminus is shown from a 2014 shot) it looks like to me the terminus is right about where it was in 1933, and has advanced a mile and one-half, or so from 2005.
