New Ice-Free Arctic Date

Like the day before, there was almost no change in Arctic sea ice extent yesterday.

    off topic
but i found a new campaign video of the democrats for the next election :)

    • Louis Hooffstetter says:

I’m surprised YouTube has let this video stay up.
I predict it will be taken down soon.

      • arn says:

It just has a few hundred views and the channel of this guy was taken down some month ago if i remember right
= noone from the democratic plantation watched it until now. That’s why it is alive.

  2. Jim Hunt says:

Despite the tongue in your cheek. The Northwest Passage is open at last:

    http://GreatWhiteCon.info/2018/08/the-northwest-passage-in-2018/

As long as you’re following behind a Canadian icebreaker at least.

    • spike55 says:

And the Larsen route down through Prince of Wales Strait.. 1944.?

Yep, gottta have a big powerful icebreaker, nowadays to even get through the most southern route.

One heck of a lot of sea ice up there, Jimbo. !

    • spike55 says:

And in 1954 when the “Northwind”, a small ice breaker, sailed around the top of Banks Island along McClure Strait into Melville Sound

Yep seems there was probably somewhat LESS SEA ICE back then,

      Wouldn’t you agree Jimbo-troll.

But still FAR MORE than for most of the first 9000 years of the Holocene.

For what it is worth, the Arctic was already open in December of this year, to deliver LNG so that the world can avoid burning DIRTY COAL:

Watch first commercial LNG tanker cross Russia’s Arctic route without icebreaker escort in December.

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier ‘Eduard Toll’ has become the first commercial ship to travel the Arctic’s northern sea route in winter.
The 300-meter-long vessel set out from South Korea in December for Sabetta terminal in northern Russia, cutting through 1.8-meter-thick ice.

      https://www.rt.com/business/419082-lng-tanker-arctic-icebreaker/

Along with all the GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS about the increase in US FRACKING & PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION, there is good news about the Arctic LNG also, as this shipment won’t be a one off event as Russia is building 15 more ice breaking LNG carriers:

      https://www.ship-technology.com/projects/christophe-de-margerie-class-icebreaking-lng-carriers/

And finally the BEST ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS is this:

The monster-icebreaker that might reshape Arctic shipping

Yards fight for the right to build the nuclear-powered vessel that will be able to break through 4 meter ice and open wide shipping lanes across Arctic waters.

      https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/2018/07/monster-icebreaker-might-reshape-arctic-shipping

When this thing leaves the dry dock, the ARCTIC will be really SCREAMING! (lol)

When the Greens and Environmentalists get their game on, they are indeed unstoppable.

    • Steven Fraser says:

If you look at the ice chart, the path to the west of Cambridge bay (Dease Straight and Coronation Gulf) have ice in them, new since yesterday’s map.

It will be interesting to see if that ice persists, or blows away.

      • spike55 says:

Wind is pushing ice into McClure and down passed Banks Island

Wouldn’t it be “so sad” if it got blocked. ;–)

  3. tonyheller says:

If the Franklin Expedition had an icebreaker, then the Northwest Passage has been “open” since 1845.

For climate alarmists, the purpose of words is to twist and distort them until they have no meaning.

    • Anon says:

I used to consider myself an environmentalist. Back in the day, things like the pristine Arctic and undeveloped wetlands were considered sacrosanct. But now it seems like somehow Wall Street and multi-national corporations have hijacked the environmental movement and those who consider themselves environmentalists now just don’t have a clue. It is the weirdest thing I have ever seen, where you have environmental policies now driving policies like: Fracking, Pipeline Construction and Opening the Arctic.

The reason they give for all of this is the elimination of Coal, but that is not happening in reality:

As Beijing Joins Climate Fight, Chinese Companies Build Coal Plants

      https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/01/climate/china-energy-companies-coal-plants-climate-change.html

India’s coal plant plans conflict with climate commitments

      https://phys.org/news/2017-04-india-coal-conflict-climate-commitments.html
The new environmental movement is all about: virtue signaling on Facebook, buying stickers & t-shirts, policing blogs like this one and voting Democratic. WTF!?

    • Griff says:

      I agree.

which is why comparing icebreaker supported transits like 1944, or 2 year, freeze in over winter transits, is NOT in any way comparable to sailing a large cruise ship thru in completely open water…

This year we see a huge amount of ice being pushed into the NW passage… something now only possible as the fast ice in the archipelago has gone…

      • spike55 says:

        roflmao .

Your IGNORANCE astounds me , griff.

Larsen was NOT supported by Icebreakers, idiot !!

And your feeble imagining and make believe are getting totally hilarious

        MUCH DESPERATION.. so funny

        poor hallucinogenic griff..

what have you been taking THIS time !!!

  4. MrGrimNasty says:

I’d never seen this unintentionally hilarious video before. Lewis Pugh swimming across the N.Pole to highlight the ‘melting’.

After smashing his way through solid ice in a pristine environment, in a massive unenvironmentally friendly icrebreaker, disturbing healthy breeding polar bears, he then swims 1km in his own cleared wake.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNmY_EAoXnU

This is the same idiot that tried to canoe to the N.Pole the next year and got nowhere near.

  5. Lance says:

Dec 7th…..ice free…a date that will live in infamy…(tongue in cheek)

apologies to all those veterans (yes my son is in the military)

  6. Steven Fraser says:

DMI Sea Ice Volume Stats for Aug 18, abbreviated version:
111.77% of the average of the 16-year series, 111.52% of the 2004-2013 10-year series.

  7. Griff says:

Just take a look at changes since July 31st (about when you were declaring the melt over) and see the change now.

It is still melting up there

    • Steve Keohane says:

Looks like ‘the change now’, regarding your ‘still melting up there’, is barely more than zero.

    • Gator says:

Ms Griff, we are in an interglacial and the ice is supposed to be melting, it has been melting for over 10,000 years. Why do you care? Not offing enough poor brown people through starvation for your liking?

      • Griff says:

so Tony is saying it isn’t melting and you are saying it is supposed to be melting? hmmm…

        • spike55 says:

You just have REALLY DUMB comprehension skills, griff.

Its as though you INTENTIONALLY IGNORE everything that has really been said, and just FABRICATE IT by pulling it from some part of your nether region.

You certainly have NEVER paid any attention to what has been said before, you know, like the Arctic sea ice extent being in the top 10% of the last 10,000 years.

DELIBERATE IGNORANCE is your only characteristic.

        • Gator says:

Ms Griff, when has Tony ever said that Arctic ice does not melt? You are being purposely obtuse (totally unnecessary as it comes naturally to you) just like Jim. Creating straw men, moving goal posts, ignoring the entire record, and cherry picking.

You really do hate poor brown people. You just have not admitted that to yourself yet, you wrap your racist hatred up in a little presentation of “caring for the planet”, but this is a falsehood just like every one of your comments. Someone who cares about their fellow man would not be working so hard to starve them to death.

Hopefully some day you are honest with yourself, and cease your support for this alarmist genocide.
