The Alternate Reality Of Climate Alarmists

The front page of “Weather Underground” – named after Bill Ayers’ 1960s terrorist organization, which tried to murder US Navy personnel and their wives.

The stories are : snow, winter storm, snow and ice, persistent cold, and of course the mandatory article about global warming and green energy.

Here is the story :

Meanwhile, Britain switches their coal back on to avoid freezing in the dark – due to a 100% chance of green energy failure.

Britain’s oldest coal plants called on to avoid running out of power as cold sets in

h/t Paul Homewood

You really can’t make this stuff up. Climate alarmists, and leftists in general, are completely disconnected from reality. They suffer from a severe form of mental illness, which unfortunately threatens everyone around them too.

  1. Disillusioned says:

This centrally-planned insanity seemed okay to them as long as they were only freezing several poor pensioners to death each winter.

  2. Psalmon says:

Beyond just re-firing coal, this is an insanity on the level of Easter Island.

According to the BBC, this coal plant will be converted to “Biomass” in the next few years…Biomass sounds so “green” and “renewable” but it is not. Biomass is burning trees. We cut down forests to burn trees instead of coal. Biomass is industrialized caveman technology.

And according to the article, “Drax’s annual report reveals that biomass belches out more CO2 per unit of electricity generated than coal does..” So we get to clear cut forests, burn them, AND create more of what they intended to reduce.

It is also a difficult fuel to handle…can’t get wet…prone to explosion: “…It’s even liable to burst into flames as it slowly oxidizes so piles of it have to be constantly checked for temperature rises.” Wouldn’t that be nice on a cold day when wind power dies?

Independent should run another article which states, “TREES are now just a thing of the past.” or the NY Times could run an article, “The End of Trees.”

Environmentalists are the biggest threat to the Environment. I think we would be a more sophisticated civilization if we just start carving large stone heads.

  3. Gamecock says:

‘National Grid said on Monday evening that there was a 100pc probability that the lights would go out within 24 hours unless an extra 2GW of power capacity agreed to help meet demand.’

Agreed? What does that even mean?

‘2GW of power capacity.’ Odd construction. Production is what they need. Wind/solar have ‘capacity.’ I’d say Ms Ambrose doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

  4. frederik wisse says:

On purpose the British coal-industry was killed by the UK upperclass . Their frontrunner Margareth Thatcher could not stand the power if the minersunions and decided to extinguish them . It worked . The same way as Hillary Clinton killed Khadaffi who lead the most prosperous nation in Africa . Whats left of it ? Powerhungry men are bad , but powerhungry women are worse . Guess what : Ever met someone who is coalpowerhungry except in a Polish joke ?

  5. R Shearer says:

There is a technique that can be used to get rid of black carbon. It incinerates it, creating and invisible gas that that is actually beneficial to plants.

  6. GW says:

I am a retired engineer from National Grid USA. The ceo at the time, Steve Halliday, had given a speech in Britain stating that people would have to get used to electricity being very expensive AND not always being available when they wanted it. However, a government bureau would be created to ensure that the electricity which was available would be used (distributed) for “the highest social purposes”.

This was not intended for the American employees, but word did get out. It’s a terrifying prospect, when you think about it, and the only thing that keeps us from that socialist-elitist future is our system of government, which is teetering on the brink – and our second amendment rights. Thank Heaven for Donald Trump !

  7. Ulric Lyons says:

The UK gets 2GW from France via interconnection, and Macron is talking about closing 14 nuclear power stations.

    • Johansen says:

…and just one Uranium plant can produce 3,000 MW! (3 GW) with a very high operating factor. EVERY NUCLEAR PLANT that gets shut down sets the cause of “alternative energy” back a thousand steps…

Really, really BIG solar power plants – for example check out the Ivanpah facility in the Mojave Desert – have relatively small capacities. Ivanpah has a GROSS capacity of 400 MW, and cost over $2 Billion dollars! It has a 20 PERCENT OPERATING FACTOR!!! That means it generates the equivalent of an 80 or 90 MW nuclear/coal/gas plant. It nothing, it’s a drop in the bucket…

  8. Psalmon says:

Here is another “renewable energy” miracle to watch…Georgetown Texas claims it is 100% renewable…refuses to provide any transparency on it’s sources…shows budget costs rising 25% against forecast long term contracts (due to lower resale market rates).

Guarantee this feller has a renewable energy business stake and he’s hiding something.

“I know what’s right! Don’t bother me with facts.”

  10. RichO says:

Talk about alternate reality, watching White Christmas circa 1954, the movie references no snow and no Democrats in Vermont, boy have times changed!

  11. Ed Bo says:

1,000 pounds per kWh wholesale price? What’s the problem? That’s only 1 pound per kWh ($1.27/kWh) into the grid. I’m sure they can provide inexpensive electrical energy to poor pensioners!
