Apparently hasn’t changed size since 1964, but appears to have not been affected by sea-level rises since then, either. Its “peak” is a whopping 5m above sea-level. Should be serving as a “canary in the coal mine”, much like the Maldives, eh?

Abandoned? What a tragedy. The diving around Johnston is beautiful, with coral growth much more lush than around Hawaii. It could have served as a divers’ and pelagic sport fishers’ mecca. The reef fish would be off limits anyway, due to ciguatera. The aerial photo looks the same as when I was there in 1973.
They used old WWII Aircraft carriers under it to make sure it floated.
