No Good Deed Goes Unpunished By The Government

And if it was a child stuck in the frozen river the authorities would have??????
a-) Discussed possible options among themselves.
b-) Consulted their little black book of council by-laws and regulations
c-) Done nuttin’, it’s tea time innit?
That’s exactly what happened in England last winter.
A kid died as a result.
The bastards!
Nice story but ” 10ft thick ice ” in Maryland???
Sorry, I may run afoul of some of my skeptic friends, and I agree, the fine was wrong. There should be a law against stupidity and that should have been the fine.
Here’s the thing. It wasn’t a child, or a person. It was a deer. Typically, I’m not big on life vests in water. But, icy cold water and a wild animal fighting for its life makes for a great opportunity for some very bad outcomes. I’m note sure how precious deer are in Maryland, but if they really need some that bad, please come to Kansas and take some from here. I typically dodge one or more every day. Either going to work or going home. Its a freaking deer! If the boat had capsized or one fell in, what would have been the expectation? The expectation would have been for the emergency personnel to risk their lives trying to save Batman and Robin. Let’s not confuse acts of stupidity with acts of bravery.
Just my 2 cents.
Quite well put and ofcourse you are absolutely correct.
I think some of us (like me) are upset at the bloody mindedness of officials who wouldn’t recognise common sense if they tripped over it.
suyts, you are not too far from what they are actually being charged with. But it is very sneaky. South of that berg, we have a law that says if you do something stupid and get yourself stuck in the river – and then they have to come (the rescue people) pull you out – you will be fined for the cost of the rescue. I do not object to that too much as someone has to pay for the stupidity, why not the stupids?
MD seems to think that they are going to get rich by saying “We are charging you the cost of idle time in case the rescuers were needed”. Kind of like what the hospital tried to charge us on the birth of our 3rd child – a pharmacy charge even though my wife received no medication – they said it was in case she needed it – I told them I would pay it when she needed it and not in case!
Hm. Should I say, if I see you sinking amidst an icy river, “Well, it is just another (fill in blank: old man; old woman, redneck, foolish teen who is seeking Darwin award) — you get the drift. Fact being, if I went my way and let you drown/freeze to death, I’d feel bad, by hey, I don’t know you. You’re just another person amidst billions of others. Lord knows they don’t need anymore people, and missing one of us ain’t gonna harm our species population.
