the coldest December since records began in 1659, but also the harshest of three freezing winters in a row….
No possibility of saying it’s just one isolated winter that will statistically average in and show “global warming” is happening anyway. But they won’t even say that anymore. They’ll say this is caused by “global warming”. They become more brazen all the time—but what else is left for them but to be that way?
the Met Office, which advised them that, despite two harsh winters in succession, these were “random events”
So people have died this winter needlessly.
Last night, many forecasters were saying that DC was going to get 6-10″ of snow late last night and today. It hasn’t snowed a flake yet. If meteorologists can’t predict the weather 6 hours ahead of time, I think it’s unrealistic to expect that they can make reliable forecasts months in advance
Hi
I repeat my comment to the Daily Telegraph Christopher Booker article. I hope you don’t mind the repetition.
Thank you Christopher Booker.
I now really fear for the UK and its advancing Green policies. I can only see a very bleak future for the UK in the coming few years. I am really pleased to live in France where electricity generation is 85% nuclear.
Future Energy Security, (thoroughly destroyed by the last Government and sadly with the destruction perpetuated by the current Coalition), is probably the foremost responsibility of a government to its citizens. It is arguably more important than even than Military Security.
In the light of the state of the current Solar Cycle, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, the North Atlantic Oscillation, etc., it seems that there is a real prospect of damaging cooling continuing in the near future for several decades as we inexorably move towards the climate of another Little Ice Age. Piers Corbyn and many others already anticipate that eventuality.
Many UK power stations face closure according to Green Euro policies, and so the lights may well go out in the winter 2015 if not sooner. To quote from Christopher Booker, “More than once in the past week, (in December 2010), as our power stations have been thrashed way beyond normal peak power demand, the contribution of wind turbines has been so small that it has registered as 0 per cent”.
The French long-term energy strategy with its massive commitment to nuclear power is impressive, (85% of electricity generation). And even if one is concerned about CO2, Nuclear Energy pays off, French electricity prices and CO2 emissions / head are the lowest in the developed world.
And whatever may be said, outside Europe the, rest of the world is not joining in. The non-joiners, (China, India, Japan, Russia, Brazil, South Africa and soon the USA as the Republican majority hopefully dismembers the Catastrophic Man-made Global Warming scam), already amount to 62% of the world CO2 emissions and 48% of the world population.
But it is only in the UK that the Government has enshrined action on CO2 into legislation.
It is utterly futile to think that mankind can affect climate to any worthwhile extent. The numbers are very simple and are accepted by a renowned UK government advisor, the US Department of Energy and many other reputable scientific minds.
Why cant we get to the nub of the problem ? with NUMBERS NOT ADJECTIVES and there is a good chance that these rough and ready numbers are in the right ballpark.
On average world temperature is ~+15 degC. This is sustained by the atmospheric Greenhouse Effect ~33 degC. Without the Greenhouse Effect the planet would be un-inhabitable at ~-18 degC.
So translating the agents causing the Greenhouse Effect into degrees centigrade:
• Water Vapour and Clouds account for as much as 95% of the Greenhouse Effect = ~ 31.35 degC
• Other Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) account for about 5% = ~1.65 degC
• CO2 is 75% of the remaining effect when accounting for the enhanced effects of Methane, Nitrous Oxide and other GHGs = ~1.24 degC
• Most CO2 in the atmosphere is natural, more than ~93%
• Man-made CO2 is less than 7% of total atmospheric CO2 = ~0.087 degC being caused by the full emissions of the carbon economies of the whole world
• UK’s contribution to World CO2 emissions is ~1.8% = 1.6 thousandths degC
The maximum efforts made in the UK can only achieve an insignificant and immeasurable part of that. Even partial efforts would damage the UK economy irrevocably.

The probability is that any current global warming is not man-made and in any case such warming could be not be influenced by any remedial action taken by mankind however drastic.
If the numbers above are even close to the right ballpark, the prospect should be greeted with Unmitigated Joy:
• all concern over CO2 as a man-made pollutant can be discounted.
• it is not necessary to damage the western world’s economy to no purpose.
• if warming were happening, it would lead to a more benign and healthy climate for all mankind.
• any extra CO2 is already increasing the fertility and reducing water needs of all plant life and thus enhancing world food production.
• a warmer climate, within natural variation, as has occurred over the last century, would provide a future of greater prosperity for human development and much more food for the growing world population. This has been well proven in the Roman and Medieval pasts and would now especially benefit the third world.
As to Green solutions now being realised consider this:
If the capital cost of Nuclear power is ~£1.4 billion / gigawatt (according to Prof David MacKay) and the newly commissioned array off Thanet cost £0.78 billion and is rated at 0.300 gigawatt but even using a generous load factor of 35% is only capable of producing on average 0.105 gigawatt , it appears that in capital cost terms alone offshore wind costs ~£7.5 billion / gigawatt or more than 5 times the cost of the equivalent nuclear production.
This of course ignores all the additional costs of the essential, continuous, CO2 emitting, parallel backup generating capacity as well as the costs of continuing feed-in tariffs, estimated at about a further £1.2 billion over the 20 year life of the project. Paying for starters more than 5 times as much for an unreliable energy source must make utter economic nonsense.
And to add to the nonsense, Carbon Capture and Storage can only increase electricity costs and deprive the planet of a source of increased plant fertility.
It is one of many suggestions, which might reduce CO2 emissions. All are expensive and all are pretty well pointless.
Supporting renewable energy, especially wind farms for starters, is something that a cash-strapped government should re-examine very carefully.
All these irrational policies have arisen because CO2 based Catastrophic Man-made Global Warming has become a state sponsored religion. On the other hand there are many worthy Green objectives, which are being completely bypassed or ignored in the continuing demonization of CO2 emissions.
So major government savings and greatly increased national prosperity could be achieved by terminating all CO2 related Government green activities and repealing the Climate Change Bill.
Otherwise the UK really is “standing into grave danger”.
“”The Met Office simply went into denial. Its senior climate change official, Peter Stott, said in March 2009 that the trend towards milder winters was likely to continue. There would not be another winter like 1962/3 “for 1,000 years or more”.”‘
==================================================
What an odd statement.
What would allow this in 1000 years, since the models only show it getting warmer.
According to the “Experts, Susan Solomon< it takes over a thousand years for CO2 to exit the system. If one believes that fairy tale they will believe it will take a thousand years to experience another cold winter until the new fairy tale comes along that warming causes colder winters.
I do not recall reading that part in any of the IPCC reports. If memory serves I thought it was warmer winters are a sign of global warming.
Lets not forget that these institutions have been infiltrated by green activists from top to bottom.
And what is their agenda? To reverse industrialization.
Well they’re doing a dang fine job of it starting with GB and a few other smaller EU nations and have Obama aiding and abeting them in bringing down the US as well.
The white Christmas in the South was one for the record books. Columbia, S.C., had its first significant Christmas snow since weather records were first kept in 1887. Atlanta had just over an inch of snow—the first measurable accumulation on Christmas Day since the 1880s.
