OTTAWA | Thu Oct 29, 2009 12:01pm EDT(Reuters) – The multiyear ice covering the Arctic Ocean has effectively vanished, a startling development that will make it easier to open up polar shipping routes, an Arctic expert said on Thursday.
Vast sheets of impenetrable multiyear ice, which can reach up to 80 meters (260 feet) thick, have for centuries blocked the path of ships seeking a quick short cut through the fabled Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific. They also ruled out the idea of sailing across the top of the world.
But David Barber, Canada’s Research Chair in Arctic System Science at the University of Manitoba, said the ice was melting at an extraordinarily fast rate.
“We are almost out of multiyear sea ice in the northern hemisphere,” he said in a presentation in Parliament.

I don’t deal in rumors, but in facts. That climate science has failed–ever since the turning away from the simple and stable Standard Atmosphere model, to pursue the entirely false “greenhouse effect” and the idea of an atmosphere poised on the razor’s edge of “runaway global warming” OR cooling–has been my clear and consistent message ever since I did the utterly simple Venus/Earth temperatures-vs-pressures comparison in November 2010. All of modern science, especially all the academic “overseers” of the “consensus”, are indicted and found guilty by that definitive evidence, and by everyone’s denial of that evidence up to this day.
Even today, the “lukewarmers” are still obsessing on climate sensitivity. The “debate” has brought no progress, no correction, no rethinking of failed theory, at all–so far.
Progressives have effectively killed science. Now we have Lysenkoism instead. Propaganda calling itself science.
Science is still alive and well. It was just forced to flee the country and move overseas.
You are right about the Lysenkoism though… I am firmly convinced that part of the appeal that CAGW has for low-information thinkers is that it allows them to pretend that even though they failed all their science courses in school, they have still managed to gain Deep Understanding Of Climate Science.
Even if vastly reduced summer sea ice made it “easier” to transit the NW Passage, would it ever be a major trade route? The SS Manhattan demonstration (show) transit in 1969 required a constant heavy ice breaker escort, and the US and Canada each had two breakers assisting at various times. They don’t have enough breakers now, and no new ones are going into service in the US for at least ten years. Newer giant container ships, like the Maersk Triple E, weren’t built with zig zagging around the top of Canada in mind.

He came to that unscientific conclusion after a boat ride in September 2009 at the tail end of the Arctic melt season.

I checked out how often the north was open to shipping, looking up all the ship passages on record that I could find. The route was open 72 of the last 112 years, which means that is open more than it is closed. Open 64% of the time! What novices! Bad science and lies are so easy to disprove.
To the point where a “Star Chamber” team has been appointed to look at the state of “Climate Science”……
