Tainting a reasonably good study with the mandatory gratuitous global warming comment line.
Studying treering records from the southwestern United States, University of Hawaii scientists have helped assemble a 1,100-year historical picture of the climate phenomenon known as El Niño, offering an avenue to understanding how weather patterns could change in a warming world.
UH scientist Jinbao Li said by email that the record implies that warmer oceans will lead to more severe El Niños and the opposite phenomena, La Niñas, and more extreme climate conditions around the globe. But a final verdict awaits better climate models, he said.
A question for those more familiar than I. What is more important on this graph, the absolute value, or the relative change from the green line? Meaning, was the peak in the year 950 of 1.6 (departure of 0.8) more influential than the similar sized peak in 1900 (departure of 0.5)?
First thing to realize is that the entire study is based on eigenvectors. Just like the computer emulation of Antarctica temperature a couple years ago Steig et al.
Climate Audit has the story.
The second thing to realize is that eigenvectors have no relationship with reality. I tried to get Jeff Id to demonstrate this point by taking the false temp patterns used by Steig (to smear temp readings from the coast over the interior, where there were no temp records, and then claim “global warming in Antarctica” on the cover of Time magazine) and applying them to some region of the world with known temperature histories, to highlight how useless the Steig method is (opposed to it’s facility as a treacherous lie).
Cycles of about every 50-90 years?? Cycles??? No no no CO2 doesn’t do cycles, CO2 only does hockey schticks.
Do tree rings really give you an accurate version of something as complex as El Nino?
The green line shows long term El Nino Strength. What drove it upwards until 1800? And having reached that amplitude, what was the effect on global air temperature?
Horse farts. Because there are no other drivers of global climate besides green house gases.
Off topic… sort of… back in the real ($) world…
“OSLO (Reuters) – Rich countries have missed a U.N. deadline for outlining aid to help developing nations combat climate change.
Among industrialised nations, only Russia and Ukraine sent letters to the United Nations by the May 1 deadline — only to say they did not feel obliged to contribute under a deal to provide almost $30 billion in initial “fast-start” climate funds from 2010-12.”

No new solar panels for Mugabe’s villa. So sad.
It’s only objectionable because it’s the messiah….
They had no problem showing Bush’s pictures or the American flag getting burned.
Notice, it’s the same 12 guys in all the pictures…..LOL
I can just see some CNN reporter telling them what to do, and smile for the camera…..
