Live blog: New York City seemingly spared as Tropical Storm Irene churns on

[Update 10:22  a.m. Sunday] CNN’s Anderson Cooper, reporting from Battery Park in New York, says that the flooding there is receding and it is no longer raining.

“The winds have also died down,” he said, noting that New Yorkers were beginning to come out of their homes as the weather appeared to get better.

He said the Holland Tunnel has also reopened.

    Yes!
As our fearful, community organizer, leader told us:
    “….a historic storm!”
as he, like the pointy-haired Dilbert boss, “took control”.

The gales of hype were astoundingly destructive but, by activating FEMA, there should be a quick recovery/clean up with all the $ spent on overtime, etc.

The Holland Tunnel is the lowest lying tunnel. If it is reopened, that means there was ZERO storm surge. That Bloomberg is a real genius.

Irene would have been a CAT 5, and New York destroyed, but Obama rushed in and took control of the Hurricane Command Center, and all were saved.
