Nobel Prize winning Internet inventor Al Gore says that the Arctic will be ice free next summer, and it is too late to “do anything about it.”
Arctic Ocean ice could melt by 2013

TONY EASTLEY: A year ago US scientists caused alarm when they predicted the Arctic Ocean could be free of summer ice by 2030, but now researchers say those estimates were far too conservative.
A US-based team has told a conference in California that the northern polar waters could be ice-free in summer by 2013.
WIESLAW MASLOWSKI: We’re just moving this date closer and closer to us simply because I believe what is happening, the system in the Arctic Ocean is very complex and from a mathematical point of view, it’s non linear.
AL GORE: Last September 21, as the northern hemisphere tilted away from the sun, scientists reported with unprecedented alarm that the north polar ice cap is in their words, falling off a cliff.
One study estimated that it could be completely gone during summer in less than 22 years. Another new study to be presented by US Navy researchers later this week warns it could happen in as little as seven years. Seven years from now.
BARBARA MILLER: As the world meets in Bali, Al Gore went on to repeat his calls for tough action on climate change.
The trouble is, it looks increasingly like it may already be too late.
But it is worse than it seems. In 1960, scientists knew that the Arctic would be ice-free year round by the year 2000.
Can’t believe my idiot brother voted for Al Gore… And Obama…
The benefits of an “Ice Free” Arctic Ocean are so great I wonder why these morons are determined to fear that eventuality. The benefits of a warming planet, as opposed to a cooling planet, should make these morons stop wailing and start praying for more warming.
If the planet continues to warm then there is the risk that the earth could turn into a pressure cooker similar to that of Venus as a result of depleted albedo in the Arctic, current man made global warming and the methane hydrates in the permafrost degassing, sending up copious amounts of methane into the atmosphere, which is a very powerful Greenhouse Gas. Otherwise the current warming which looks likely to set off the methane time bomb, will cause a climate change catastrophe as temperatures jump right past 2 degrees
What have you been smoking?
Niel, how can you be so wrong?
Earths atmosphere is quite “leaky” given that there are open IR windows in the spectrum that neither CH4 or CO2 covers.
The permafrost is quite stable in the far north as recent science reports have shown.

Methane (CH4) is a massively overrated gas because it’s IR presence is negligible and short lived in the atmosphere.

Why are you so easily fooled by alarmist bunkum?
It looks like the death spiral got going, rebounded and went back into terminal decline. 🙁
How would they know what the thickness was when Peary made his trek? As I recall, they had to keep moving when not eating or sleeping. They certainly didn’t have time to drill holes in the ice every few inches/feet/miles/degrees of arc,
Rumors of the death of Arctic ice have been greatly exaggerated. (© Mark Twain)
Am I allowed to ask a slightly off topic question? What is it that Al Gore supposedly did, to invent the internet?
He discovered that the earth is millions of degrees two kilometres down – apparently several million degrees is even hot enough to melt drill bits, come to think of it, that would be almost a 1000 times hotter than the surface of the sun> Crimminy, Gore, what are you smoking…

Why do I never trust people who keep using the word “unprecedented” in context of climate?
“AL GORE: Last September 21, as the northern hemisphere tilted away from the sun, scientists reported with unprecedented alarm that the north polar ice cap is in their words, falling off a cliff.”
