Romm says that Arctic ice volume has collapsed, while Neven is upset that Arctic ice volume is increasing.

Arctic Death Spiral Bombshell: CryoSat-2 Confirms Sea Ice Volume Has Collapsed | ThinkProgress

this year is now well above those two lowest volume years (by 1729 and 1720 km3 respectively) and even slightly above 2010 (126 km3).

Some might say I emphasize this now because as an alarmist I’m not pleased with the results

These shits WANT the planet to fry. Truly nasty.

I don’t think they’re quite that nasty. But their cause(s) desperately need a token calamity to ‘shock and awe’ the public into compliance. Here is an interesting comment from the UK Guardian . . .

“Only a Shock and Awe (sorry Rumsfeld) campaign may work on most people and for that you need something shocking. Clearly the dramatic loss of ice isn’t doing it, nor are the cute Polar Bears, or Arctic villages lost to the seas, or even Sandy, or heatwaves, or coldwaves. Maybe an A list celeb tied up to a Buoy drifting away in the Arctic, at the mercy of the sea (and Orcas) beamed live 24/7 would do the trick to get people to finally pay serious attention.”

    Team? Gaggle at best.

I wonder what wonderful “adjustments” CryoSat-2 performs to it’s raw data?

It is very convenient that no one else has access to the raw data.

  4. I’m waiting for the day that their models say we should be at zero, yet there will still be ice.

Oh, wait – PIOMAS says we went through “zero” in 1996, and should be seeing negative ice volume.

That’s one of the problems with PIOMAS – it doesn’t show a lower boundary. And they’re assuming (again) that they can determine NORMAL by careful selection of an averaging period (in this case, 1979-2011).

I’d like to see how today’s anomaly would appear based on a 1900-1979 averaging period.

I understand the concern. If the sea ice gets a hole, or god forbids mostly melts one summer, the world ends, right?
