The rowers appear to be attempting a new, shorter Northwest Passage route which doesn’t actually involve getting anywhere near the Northwest Passage.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

That is what is commonly referred to as going around in circles.
It’s quite nice they aren’t giving up, seeing how this is some spectacular entertainment.
It’s a tough row to hoe-:)
This is what they want to do:

Chewer, didn’t you mean to say that, It’s a tough route to ‘row’? :<)
Even more entertaining is the tweet 3 days ago:
And then today on Facebook:

Straight out of the cAGW playbook.
“awesome sauce”???? What the…? Is that you, Ned Flanders?
They’re now walking south at about 1/8th of a mile per hour. Instead of heading across the water, of course.
I’ve modified my post so that the thumbnail shows the current prediction in large type, and the link will be updated frequently. Here’s a good shortlink that will stay current:

If they use the chopper they could travel in a straight line, and enjoy a hot toddy while they travel.
Oh no, our awesome sauce is frozen cock stiff!
Now THAT is some funny shi’ite! 😀
Maybe they are out to find the best wind condition for their sponsor. Along the route there will be wind turbines that can be maintained by teams in rowing boats.
As of 45 min ago, they’ve made a break for that nub in the south of the bay. So there will just be a long walk northward from where they make the shallows again. Then they just have to wait for all the ice to clear out.
I’ve just reworked the spreadsheet system to allow for how much they are veering off course, and thus extending their trip distance. At the same time, I gave them some credit for circling around a bit early on. This required tinkering with great circle calculations, as my original “percent of longitude” ratio was not working well. (The trip is nearly due east, in theory, but they are literally all over the map.)
Thus, they still have an expected arrival after Thanksgiving, but they now need to cover about 11% more kilometers than the planned 3,000. And they’ll continue to fall behind at the rate (and direction!) they’re going. The spreadsheet will automatically adjust for their veering ratio as (if?) it gets worse.
I also tinkered with the URL for the short link:

The MLF (for MainstreamLastFirst) makes a bit more sense.
The trip, however, does not.

Zactly. As they eschew open water, they add to their overall distance to travel.
You shouldn’t have to tack in a row boat.
Reblogged this on The Firewall.
That new route is a joke right Steve? If not they are are heading home??
I don’t know why you guys are so critical of the rowing team. Desperation means doing whatever you have to. It’s not like they just arbitrarily CHOSE to do this journey in a boat specifically designed for the purpose, or that they have constant access to the finest scientific information about the weather that the 21st century can provide.
Oh wait…. uh never mind
They preannounced that climate change made it possible to row the NW Passage
This folly is toast and getting trapped in a frozen Northwest Passage is suicide.
Row straight to the nearest village and seek shelter.
The row boat design is flawed.
The boat is reason enough to end this even if the path was ice free.
Where is the common sense ?
They’ve just made a good run — south, which is sideways to their course. But they got across that bay. Their speed (they hit 3 km/h) helped their prediction somewhat, even if their direction lengthened the overall distance. The balance has them finishing November 18th on my chart.
So it’s only an impossible journey by less than two months. No problem, right? Of course, it’s been relatively easy going for them so far — but they’ve made clear that they were counting on the wind pushing them along.
If I had better data for Charles Hedrich, I might run a prediction of when he will pass the elaborate-but-ultimately-inappropriate Arctic Joule.

It is so small that starting January 1st 2006 every Artic ice extent differential could be hidden by a comma. Then by mid January, 2006 the Artic ice extent was much lower than it had been at any time since 2006. By December 31 2006 Artic sea ice was at a 7 year record high as far as total northern polar sea ice is concerned. So is this caused by climate which follows an overall set pattern but that can vary from year to year, or is the Artic sea ice simply following the dictates of weather, which ebb and flow over shorter periods of time causing sea ice coverage to both wax and wane?
It is also damning to the AGW fallacy that those who tend to believe in AGW the strongest have the least real world experience or time spent in the out doors seeing the weather up close and personal. NO, hang gliding, rock climbing in the mall, or watching Timothy Treadwell’s saga on DVD doesn‘t, qualifies any of you (myself included) as a climate or weather expert. However spending all day, every day, day after day, outside in all seasons and during all kinds of weather like I did for over 50 years qualifies anyone (myself included) to have an opinion about the weather or how the weather may have, or may not have changed over time.
What we are seeing with the climate debate is cadres of Starbucks aficionados (Sorry Reggie) dabbling around in the Northern Polar regions like they were 19th Century New England missionaries, caught up in a religious fervor, preaching hellfire and damning the very building block of life (carbon) out of which 16% of our bodies are composed. They could just as will be Unitarians trying to put loin clothes around the bodies of us savage climate change deniers. Today people like Steven, Gator69, and I are looked down on as savages and barbarians by these same elites. I am speaking of corporations like Mainstream Last First etc and the whole AGW tribe like Reggie.
I am fully aware that if the global warming elites win this debate that metaphorical speaking (or maybe not) their next step is handing out Small Pox infected blankets to us skeptics. They are that dishonest and committed to their error. AGW is and has always been about holding power over your lifestyle and mine, it has never been about saving a single human or even a polar bear cub and it never will. The next step will be to determine whether you and I live or whether we go away or die to save the planet from some yet undreamed of new casthrophiy. If you doubt my words, how often have you heard the Reggie’s of this world rue even 1/8 of the current human population as too many humans on Earth. A word to the wise is sufficient; a word to the foolish is wasted breath.
Excellent.
And totally agree. AGW is about power. Through obfuscation, taxation, legislation, vilification, separation and discrimination: the warmist evangelists wish to dominate the majority. They have created virtual prisons in the minds of many people, and enslaved the people to benefit the elites and their evangelical missionaries.
Latest update at mainstreamlastfirst shows them heading southeast, towards the mainland above Anderson River. From the map, it would appear that heading to the spit below Harrowby Bay would be only slightly more distance, and on their path. They will have to cover 16 miles tomorrow to get to where they could have gone directly. Another day lost.
