The amount of Arctic sea ice at least three years old is up 37% since 2011. But even worse news for alarmists is that the old/thick ice is located on the Alaska side of the Arctic, where it will inhibit summer melt. Michael Mann and Kevin Trenberth are two of the top five global warming promoters. They both claim that global warming has brought the deep snow to the Northeast, and the press laps it up uncritically.

Had they done about one minute worth of research, they would have known that the Northeast US is having one of the coldest and driest years on record.

The snow in Boston this year is the driest on record. This makes it pile up deeper like we see in the Rocky Mountains.

Yesterday’s snow in Maryland was champagne powder. My dogs ran through it like it wasn’t there.

Trenberth also predicted that global warming would create constant El Ninos, which would have turned California tropical. Michael Mann thinks there wasn’t an MWP or LIA. And he also thinks that the small amount of warming since the middle of the 19th century is unprecedented.

As for the East Coast storm, my home in DC did get 18 inches of snow — although if this had been a true blizzard, I doubt my flight from Copenhagen on Saturday would have been allowed to land in Dulles airport and I wouldn’t of been able to get home 12 hours after I left Denmark.  Certainly temperatures in the DC area have been in the normal range over the past week — it’s only the precipitation that has been very anomalous

Climate expert Michael E Mann says that the deep snow in Boston is due to excess moisture in the air caused by global warming, but Boston is having their driest snow on record and fourth coldest start to a year on record. The ratio of snow/water is almost 10:1, more like what would be expected in the dry Rocky Mountains.

Precipitation at Boston is nowhere near a record.

By the end of the week, this may be their coldest start to a year on record.

A train carrying more than 100 tankers of crude oil derailed during a snowstorm in southern West Virginia on Monday, sending at least one tanker into the Kanawha River, igniting at least 14 tankers in all and sparking a house fire, officials said.

Officials evacuated hundreds of families and shut down two water treatment plants threatened by oil seeping into the river. State public safety division spokesman Lawrence Messina told the Associated Press late Monday that fires were still burning nearly nine hours after the accident. The plan was to let the fires on tankers burn themselves out.
